Even though high level talks are being carried out over nuclear weapons reductions, it isn't assumed they can trust russia any further than they can throw them. I personally think that the slightest suggestion that putin is ready to talk isn't wise to be made public by the US. We all know & certainly Ukraine does, that russia is ready for peace talks. It gives the impression the US is suggesting the two warring nations sit down together. That point will be decided by Ukraine alone.
