While the UK has many friends, it might be expected to project power & be the lead player in some conflict. I would say much of that capability isn't there. So to be attacked, UK doesn't have to worry much. But to be the attacker, things might not work out so well. I don't really think they have much to worry about but there are some scenarios that a more capable military would help a lot.

@memorystyles5006 The old days of being a super power means a lot may be waning. It may be much better to be a highly efficient force like the Israelis. But Britain might need a global reach.

As someone from outside the UK, I would think there is no need for massive increases. Yes, military needs & numbers have been falling down the 'pecking order' & needs to be propped back up. But over time & maybe smarter than before. I know right? Smarter spending & government sounds like an oxymoron but I have seen it done before. We have seen the farce the russians are at war. The Chinese are probably worse. History shows there will always be a threat coming for somewhere so the UK needs to be ready.

@randallturner9094 Ummmm . . . Partly true. They have sent some high tech & a lot of hand-me-downs. But this is what Ukraine has requested. I see the US as a hesitant player in all this. With a no no no . . . Okay now we will send it attitude. They are part of back channel talks with russia I think they shouldn't let cloud their thinking about Ukraine. I know the talks are important (involving the UK too) but DAMN!! Make up your mind!!

They need stronger militaries YES. The US might not be around & could fade fast. European Army? NO. I'm trying to think of a more ineffectual use of the military . . . Maybe UN Peacekeepers? Imagine the political squabbling that would go on? Supplying arms to Ukraine has shown not all in Europe have the same goals or timelines in what should be a common effort. Think of the conflicts with Turkey & Greece that might turn 'hot'. Imagine the UK seeking permission to use the army in a Falkland's like conflict? It would be inconceivable. They would never get it approved from all nations involved. So you would wind up with a 'wishy-washy' police force that is sometimes an army for defense purposes, maybe?

@pmcd6414 OH!! I hadn't heard that one. The bunker rat in Moscow would be proud of you!

@pmcd6414 And don't forget about the evil West's combat mosquitos & birds infected with Slavic fever. It wouldn't surprise me if the collective West has Time Travelers from the future & people of Middle Earth working for them too. NATO in Ukraine is old hat. Lord Farquaad in the Kremlin won't be happy with you unless you 'step up' your game. LOL!!!
