@gdwnet There is no mechanism to 'boot' out a permanent member. Which is strange because the Big 5 after WW2 was always doomed to fade in time. China, Russia, US, Britain, & France could be very small players in 100 years. I don't want to shoot down Gary's idea totally. I'm not sure the procedure but it would be possible to dissolve the Security Council & reconstitute it after. But then should you just cancel the UN charter altogether? I think not, even though I don't like slick talking politicians constantly wrangling. The world needs a voice in a common forum. Even (or maybe especially) in times of war.

@gdwnet I just don't see a need for a security council at all.

NATO is purely a defensive organization. Any invitation to help out in a conflict by a non member nation would politely be declined. If any of this were true, Ukraine could have just simply invited them. I think NATO is itching to join the fray. But it needs some flash point that threatens NATO.

If I were the dwarf emperor in the Kremlin, I would assume that NATO is looking for an excuse to get into the fray. That certainly seems to be the way they are posturing. The smart money would go on taking care of the facility. But I don't think anyone has seen him going with the smart bet during this whole blunder in Ukraine.
