  1. The russian people are but helpless flotsam floating on a sea of political intrigue. They have grown up for generations (even before USSR) to believe all their efforts to change anything would be useless. Any free thinker that might have other ideas was long ago sent off to exile. Only when events come very close to them do they feel any moral outrage. Think of relief when the NKVD/Okhrana comes knocking on your neighbor's door instead of your's at 3am. Everything is fine then, right?
