  2. It is a shame that training wasn't provided last summer about this time. But finally it appears to be happening. Edit: Someone has said the pilot training is a long affair & others talk about a long process of learning maintenance that takes years. These will be experienced Ukrainian pilots being 'type certified' in a new plane. They will not be new pilots. They need to learn some English & gain muscle memory in the new plane. As far as maintenance goes, Ukraine is a country that is far advanced in aerospace engineering. I don't think you will have any problem finding highly qualified techs (and even out of work engineers) that can be trained easily.

  10.  josefernandezsmith4840  They started, then cut back. It was such a disappointment. There is no need to train someone on planes they won't fly. And now they seem to be getting them. Don't confuse a small evaluation group with training. The west let them down dragging their feet.

  13. It is really simple. You setup air dominance then bring in the ground attack aircraft (A-10, helicopters). Air dominance doesn't have to be with a US fighter but the US has the largest pool of aircraft. DO NOT get a hodge-podge of different western aircraft. It will be hard enough for familiarization & maintenance for one aircraft. Also don't get wrapped up in the news about F-16 weak nose gear. It is 'rough field' rated just as they all are. If you follow the news the Gripen it goes dead stick with no control inputs, I think it was the Eurofighter ejecting a pilot coming in for a landing, the F-16 has a weak nose gear, and on & on. When they are actually all very good fighters. The only one lacking is the F-15 with few maintenance facilities in Europe. You will need something easy to fix (relatively). I would say either ground attack helicopters or the A-10. I would even say the Light Attack/Armed Reconnaissance (LAAR) aircraft would be perfect for Ukraine when you start buying your own. Prop driven & much cheaper than an A-10 or top end helicopters. Look at all your options then. You may have A-10's by then anyway.

  25.  @swadeisno1  Ummm . . . Muscle memory on a game won't transfer to the real thing. They will be training experienced pilots. They only need to cope with the English & muscle memory. Reaching for the wrong button under stress isn't good.

  27.  @s3cunit  The 'type certification' in any pilot's career is about 4 to 6 months. You need to learn muscle memory switching from one plane to another. This is no matter what country you are from. Ukraine has extra added problems learning English (which may be the hardest) & completely different plane. The training of AFU pilots is admirable. But let's not exaggerate & make them into astounding phenomes. They are taking about the same time but with extra handicaps.

  28.  @bekeneel  Most if not all do not speak English so it is a real problem. Changing NATO to UA would take years along with the syllabus. This (according to news I have seen) is a real choke point. And once they are in NATO it will be required anyway. Too bad. They are really motivated & could do it even faster otherwise.

  30. The Orcs already attacked The People's Republic of Belgorod. One of the bombs didn't explode at all & the other one took 10 minute to detonate. If I were the PRB I would surrender to russia. They have them almost completely surrounded . . . Or they could consider joining with Ukraine. LOL!!

  31. Orclandia is a fraud. It looks scary but is only taken seriously in the fact they might be able to get 10% of their decrepit nuclear weapons to fly & maybe 10% of those to work when the do fly. Ukraine is impressive & may have what is becoming one of the elite militaries in the world. But you have to admit most of putin's embarrassment has been the ineptness of his ministry of aggression. We should have seen it coming (I should have). The 1st Chechnya war in 1994 trounced russia & it was smaller, poorer, & no international partners.
