  1. Xi's happy train to incorporate Taiwan into the paradise of China has been derailed by the war in Ukraine. If the West stands up for a country that has been in the world community only since 1991, how much more would they stand up for Taiwan? With long standing military alliances? Hummmm. Might signal the Taipei government to move into western Taiwan instead. Probably not all the way to Beiing. At least to start with.

  8. Read your title & thought this was commentary on their economy . . . 'Escalators to Nowhere'. But I see you are talking about actual escalators with all their other infrastructure crumbling around them. It doesn't have to be reality. They are inscrutable. LOL!!

You forgot the government that helped the DPRK counterfeit dozens of world currencies, usurps territorial waters from other countries, sabre rattles when the wind blows across their face, steals intellectual properties from everyone, well I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting too. It is good that Chuckles the Tsar & Winnie the Pooh have sorted out their relationship. Fukdupistan is now subservient to Xi. But now Xi may have problems sorting out his own place in the world. And that may be a dwindling position every day.
