If you look at it realistically (in a very twisted way) what Putin did make sense. He has a long history (before Ukraine in 2014) of striking at civilians. He has shown spoiled child tendencies when he doesn't get his way. Early in his reign he had Moscow apartments bombed so he could blame Chechnya & start a war with them. Some would say this is all not known for sure that he had the FSU do this, but enough is known it is a pretty sure bet. So if he wants something bad enough to bomb his own people, what happens to Ukraine when they take away his prize project? Especially since his mighty army can do nothing on the battlefield.
