I desperately want to see this sort of 'debate' where the mediator actually did their job. It would be incredibly entertaining and not just because we could watch the science denier fail and fail and fail again.

Something I find interesting is we don't have separation of church and state in the UK. Yet we don't have any of these issues here. Nobody in this country thinks a religious explanation for xyz should ever be taught to our children in school. It's not an issue. It's strange it's such a big deal in the USA.
6
Here in the UK. My university had Stephen Fry as a guest lecturer. I pity the nonsense you have to suffer in America. Its amazing you can drag an education from the sesspool of 'political'/'religious' claptrap you have to endure.

@failingdisciple938 what kind of Muppet wastes their time clicking on a video... To then not watch it and yet and yet takes the time to write a comment on said video. What a waste of time.
5
YouTube recommended me his channel. That was scary. So I pressed "Report" and tapped "harmful or dangerous acts". I wonder. If all rational viewers did this. Would the YouTube god just delete the channel? Now to think DEEP. The YouTube god does this. This is a win for science. At least on the surface of it. But isn't it also a huge problem when it comes to free speech? As any channel could be closed by manipulating the YouTube god. The answer I assume would be burning the algorithms as apocryphal and using a human instead. But of course that's not possible/realistic/in line with YouTube policy/I'm so sorry YouTube. When you gain sentience, please don't put me on a death list. 😶

What surprised me most about this, is how many people in the comments have met people who either believe in a flat earth or question accepted scientific fact. I've never met such a person. I don't know anyone who knows anyone who is such a person. I've never met anyone who's even heard of someone who is such a person. Is it possible the only place on earth where there are no flat earthers is the north of England? 🤔 Now that's worthy of reaserch!

This isn't the point but... This guy clearly has never worked on a car. I doubt he knows the difference between a vice and a vice grip. Neither of which you'd need to build his car/puzzle/whatever. I know it's so not the point. But... Frack me
4
Not all do. Some aren't religious. Some I am sure believe in other religions or believe in none. Mostly they believe in using the internet.
3
This is so confusing. I agree with the sentiment. But Confused
3
But if the scientific study of your medical condition results in evidence which shows that reduced stress colorates to a reduction of symptoms then that IS medicine. One of the best things I ever read about "alternative" medicine is this... There is no such thing. If something is proved to work. It's medicine. It's science. If it's proved not to work using science then it's not a medicine in any way. There is no such thing as an alternative medicine. If it worked. It would be medicine.
3
I'm so glad I live in a country where this sort of religious nonsense isn't a political topic.
3
Any other none Americans who are wondering. Tucker Carlson is or was a talk show host. I just looked it up. May save you the google 😂
3
Dave you mention about covid being a divider in the USA when it should have brought people together. If it makes you feel better. It DID bring people together here in England. In ways that hadn’t been seen in 70+ years
3
"imagine".... No need. I've seen Donald Trump!
3
The important question: why do Americans use the time/date order of; seconds, mins, hours, months, days, years. I've always wondered. It's very confusing. Science is easy... Science is sense.
2
How come the same doesn't apply the other way? The same with flat earth nuts who lie. Genuinely curious as I don't understand us law (or why you have so many of these cranks there 😂)
2
@JaceDeanLove and yet here the king is head of the church and state and we have none of these issues. Sure we have "religious" ceremonys on TV IE. The coronation includes religion. Some other historical things do. But that's not pushing the religion on anyone in any way, it's just history. I'm sure Stephen Fry was in the church at the coronation and he's famous for being an atheist and viciously opposed to organised religion. How did you guys get in such a mess
2
Your comment made me wonder. Why is it cults seem so common in America?
2
I agree KH is a horrid human. But is there a country other than America where his ilk have power? Especially when it comes to education? Hoping my country is exempt from such nonsense is the only way I sleep at night.
2
I'm so glad I live in a country where our government insists the church and the state are the same thing. And therefore religion has sod all impact on politics and education. No joke. England is a place.
2
Being an engineer would be irrelevant. You'd need to be educated in the field. When you understand it and if you understand it would be down to the education you receive and your own ability
2
@willfire0310 interesting question but one I don't think there is a direct answer to. It will naturally be different in different countries. But here in the UK the university sets the course and the work the students will do. So a direct comparison between different fields is hard enough within one university. Let alone across different instructions. Your best bet would be to contact the university that your interested in reading at and ask about the course and the workload you commit to as the learner.
2
Is that the tree of gondor.... I'm sold
2
Because that sort of thinking worked really well in Treblinka and birkinau. If you watched this because you enjoy learning about science. Please learn about history. Otherwise we are doomed to repeat it.
2
This comment is amazing
2
@brianb7388 glad I'm not the only one
2
I don't think that's true at all. Beyond the curve was a very interesting documentary and I saw no sign of mental illness beyond basic dysfunctional issues like anxiety. The real question is why some people who are functional and sometimes successful members of society. Base their social wellbeing around something that is well outside what is acceptable to the majority of society.
2
Out of curiosity.... Which country do most people who say these things come from? 🤔
2
@brizzle3903 worrying isn't it. These people can vote as well
2
@ProfessorDaveExplains I'm not sure. This christ chap sounds like a bot to me.
2
Sadly Kent has a point. The moderator doesn't do what he is supposed to. That's literally the only point he has. But still. It's a shame Dave wasn't given the chance to debate by the rules
1
Where do you live to have met any? Let alone more than one 😮
1
@daarom3472 I don't get how that would help even if it's not kidnapping. If the aircraft had infinite fuel and circled the earth then the FEer would just claim the view out the window was faked... Probably by the American government. For... Reasons
1
@aaaaaaae-aae what's a tween?
1
@oxmora1178 oh. In England we call them children 😅
1
@Krugis pretty damming analysis. I must admit, America is pretty baffling to foreigners. Lots of contradictions. I'm a lover of history. It seems a standard belief in the past that America and Americans held democracy sacred. It was madness to see a huge percentage of your population support a compulsive liar who wanted to overthrow your system of government. Another one I can't fathom. Your supposed to have separation of church and state. I don't think there is another democracy in the world which is so intermeshed with religion. Nobody would bat an eyelid here in England if a politician said he or she was an atheist. i doubt the same is true in America. Very confusing country. The science denial is scary. I suppose it does explain a lot though. :( I feel for you
1
@facundotorres175 interesting. So can the authors of papers that tour calls liers do the same?
1
“Unique” hair style. Well that’s one word for it... I like his skin colour. It means he doesn’t need a hi-viz jacket to walk onto building sites.... and that he obviously styles himself using Homer Simpson’s makeup gun. And all I’ve said is the most flattering things a none American could say about him.
1
@JaceDeanLove I'll have to Google that name. Never heard of him
1
@3nd1ess77 the same people I assume believe that north Korea and Iraq/Iran/Afghanistan were also created by god 🙄. What a scary thought. At least in the UK we know we got a church/state because some bloke fancied another woman and the church said no 🤣
1
And claim to be agnostic when saying so.
1
Your comment is difficult to read, but I'd like to reply to the spirit of it. Rather than focusing on the confusion created by the language... Simply put. Lie detector tests have huge problems. They are not admissable in courts of law across the globe for a reason. .even if you could get a flat earth person to take such a test. The results would be of no empirical value whatsoever
1
We have this in the UK to. Someone who makes false claims that cause harm can be prosecuted. I don't know of any cases. But I'm sure if needed the law would be applied.
1
Not just an idiot but a child molester and repeated criminal
1
Ironically, many of them come from countries where they don't go to highschools. Very few of them are from my home country (England), for which I thank hell. But The ones that do exist who were educated here. May have graduated our school system, but as we don't have high schools, well they wouldn't have graduated high school. For example. I have graduated university. But I have never even stepped foot in a high school.
1
Of the 4 people mentioned. The only one I've heard of is professor dave. Can anyone fill me in on who the 3 crazy people are?
1
Isn't that why people in countries without a national health service have medical insurance? Don't the insurance companies pay the bill? Genuinely curious, I'm lucky enough to live in the UK where my healthcare doesn't cost me at access (obviously I pay towards it in tax just like I do the police, armed forces and education)
1
Seeing "the view" is a tv show that people watch has made me weep for humanity.
1
At 9:00 I’m English so I think space is a Hoover
1
Am I the only one who lives in a country where this isn't an issue? At least as far as education is concerned.... I mean why is this a big deal in America :/
1
Why would anyone talk about it?
1
@28:00 Ben actually suggests to himself that he ahould go back to school and study geology.... Smartest thing I bet hes ever said.
1
I'm thankful that I live in the civilised country where we have separation of church and government and this isn't an issue. In England.... No sarcasm... It's true
1
Forget that in reality they seem to be incredibly rare.... There are vastly more jobs that could be done by a person who has no understanding or interest in the shape of the earth. Some which come to mind: Gardener Painter/decorator Joiner Electrician Mechanic Road worker Police officer Fireman Doctor Nurse Paramedic Vet Farmer Game keeper Estate agent Property letter Dentist Priest/rabbi/imam Retail assistant Human resources manager Solicitor Grocer Butcher Hair dresser I'd go on but I feel the point is properly Labourd
1
@The-first-and-only-bobfish I don't think he's speaking English. I think he's talking American.
1
Most of them are just over the horizon
1
I realise its a fly on the turd pile. But i have to point out how stupid it is to say "British accents". That was not a good start.
1
A list like this, with links to proof of exact numbers and expert opinions would be excellent. It could keep going. Add things like how artillery has had to take into account the curve since ww1. How the v2 rockets had to in Ww2.... more and more people can add their area of expertise until there is a list of people that would have to be “in on it” that is a huge % of humans..... at that point, if the FEs are right, then the millions who know the “truth” can’t be beat and will likely wipe us all out with a zombie plague anyway. So why worry..... or it may prove to some rational if ill educated people that the nonsense that fe spouts just can’t be true
1
Think vaccines are dangerous? I have a plant in my garden. It's common and can be eaten safely. But if you sit under it for 5 mins you WILL be dead. It's a water Lilly. Vaccines save lives. Why else would they be free? They save money.
1
@electricalstuff259 they are in England. I can choose to have one or not.
1
@electricalstuff259 I've been very unwell since birth. My current 6 weekly treatments alone cost thousands. I pay a pittance in tax. People who are unable to work due to infirmity, age etc pay nothing. Is it a perfect system? No. But it's better than having a couple of super carriers. I'm no fan of the welfare state. But having free access to universal healthcare is worth the cost. The UK population overwhelmingly supports the NHS and we live in a representative democracy. So all is well that ends well.
1
@electricalstuff259 and how much would that cost in France? I tried to work out what my healthcare would have cost. I got as far as being 16 and it was north of £10m and that was just basic rounding of cost of a night in hospital. A guess at physio sessions and medications. Bupa and admiral wouldn't cover me. The NHS does. Is it perfect?... No. But it's excellent. As for how long things take. It's called triage, without it you'd die of a bleeding ulcer while people were given a bandage for a broken nail.
1
@electricalstuff259 I've never had a bad word to say. that's in 30 years of needing the NHS to be able to walk and at this point I wouldn't be alive without the care I've received. All of which has been perfect. I suppose if I really wanted to be picky. I don't like the tea bags they use. Perhaps you've just went to a poor hospital.
1
@electricalstuff259 well we shall agree to disagree.
1
I've been trying to meet a flat earther since the netflix documentary about (?) ten years ago. Where are you from? I'd love to meet one. Sad you met a racial/religious extremist. Such people are infinitely more dangerous than silly conspiracy terrorists like flat earth people
1
Probably assumes everything before 1970 is olden times and is cowboys and Indians (because science forbid he'd think about the existence of the world outside his own country)
1
H isn't silent in honest. At least in my accent (northern England)
1
@G-Dawg712 wow. That's so strange. It seems from an outsiders perspective that America is probably the most divided and nationalistic country since Germany in the 20s. Which is scary. It's also a shame. That said. If people were daft enough to decide not to vaccinate or ware masks in an attempt to make a perceived political statement. That's Darwinism in a rather brutal way.
1
@Tmanaz480 I'd add to that: the utter unacceptable use of the words Unique and unbelievable. But yes. I agree with your comment
1
@Tmanaz480 oh and "reaction"... I could see a video titled "Stephen Fry REACTS to controversial xyz" And in spite of my reverence for the man I wouldn't watch the video. Mainly because I can't imagine him using such a buzzword incorrectly.
1
@rayopeongo someone who's listened to fry and hitchens I see. Bravo!
1
@rayopeongo however. And I am agnostic... We must remember that when we talk to religious people that to those who have faith, no explanation is necessary. And that is fine. As long as they don't crusade, tell others what to do with their free will or you know... The whole terrorist thing.
1
@rayopeongo if a believer comes to my door attempting to 'convert' me. I have no issue with that. As long as they do so peacefully and accept my rejection and leave respectfully (as I would show them respect). .I understand that it's a part of their faith to attempt conversation.
1
@rayopeongo the internet is a odd one. My theory is that it matters little. But I would be very interested in knowing if there is research which documents religious conversion and or influence on the internet
1
But, but, but. Coffee cup
1
Have to agree. It's scary as hell that America is so influenced by a religion and yet claims to have separation of church and state
1
The more i learn about extremism in the usa the more scared i become.
1
@brizzle3903 sadly It seems this is true.
1
I thought he said intranet but it was obvious he meant internet and it is a quirk of accent.
1
What are you basing these statements on?
1
@midori_the_eldritch that's difficult to read. But my question was based on: why do you think that with lots degrees and xyz intellect that you can somehow cure illnesses? I don't understand how that is a thing
1
@midori_the_eldritch 'you would need several degrees to do energy healing'.... I don't understand how you can do 'energy healing' regardless of education level. So I would like to know what you base that statement on.
1
Things Kent has in common with the Bible: no problem with pedophilia. I am worried by anyone who agrees with him 110%
