From the histories I've read. Highball was never more than a "would be nice to get in on this" on the part of the RN looking at the RAFs chastise. Had promise. But BW was focused on the dams and both he and the est. Wanted to hit the dams that year. The loss of secrecy as a result was understood to invalidate highball. So really it was just a minor side show. It's interesting to consider. What if the attack was made a year later. With emphasis on different dams. If the sorpe was hit with something akin to a tall boy. And the highball was used against shipping. All in 1-2 nights. Well. That would have been interesting. Really. Follow up attacks on the dams hit by the dam busters by mossies hitting the repairs would have been a hell of a great follow up. Sods law that Harris and his clique were incapable of seeing the trees for the forest.
