  1. It's called confirmation bias. It's why people who think the world is flat think they have found loads of "evidence" of it. A scary one I heard from a friend of mine (who is perfectly intelligent) stated that he didn't ware seatbelts because a friend of his survived a major accident and wasn't warring one. I tried to explain that you can't hear from the 99% of people who died from not warring a seatbelt.... because they are dead. Sigh
