I repair all types of machine tools in machine shops and Bondhus is found in all of my tool bags and boxes. For light duty work.. the HF work well enough and I keep a few sets of them in my service truck. Cheap as hell when they go on sale, I give them away to employees who need an allen wrench set.. with the warning at they are not bad.. but not great. Id run Elland.. and tney rounded or snapped early in their life span. As the tests show.. Craftsman are not half bad at all and I have a pair set in my work bench at home.

I have several socket sets that Ive run on a surface grinder and squared off the ends removing the round edge and getting down into the flats. Ive had too many thin headed specialty bolt heads needing removal.

@timhartherz5652 I cant buy the high end expensive ones. If I set them down and walk to the restroom.. by the time I get back.. they have been stolen.

We cant buy ethaonl free gas in 99.9% of California.

Ive stored unleaded (Caliornia) for over 2 yrs for my saws and outboards with Sta-bil and have fired em up and run em. After a year..might need some ether..sometimes..to get em running..but they do run well enough to empty the tanks.

@b-rad1786 LOL...one of the kids at work went out and bought 4 Chinese tape measures. All of his measurements were way the hell off. I told the guys to compare tape measures..and the 4 the kid bought were way the hell off. His 1" mark was at an actual 7/8th of an inch. And that was for the entire tape length. That adds up really quick (Grin)

@MAGGOT_VOMIT I smack the button heads a wack or 2 with a small ball pien hammer.. then break em with a Bondus.. then unscrew em with a cordless drill. A lot of my machine covers may have 10-20 screws.

@giggiddy Thats one of the reasons Ive stayed with Ryobi.. their 18vt bats fit nearly every power tool they make. They may not be quite as fast or as powerful as some of the other brands.. but I only really need 1 charger in the truck.

When taking apart machines that experience a LOT of shock loading and vibration, such as machine tools of all sorts, in a humid atmosphere of water based coolants.. having solid strong allens is very very important.

The problem with sending boots back to Redwing for resoling.. it costs about 75% of new Redwings based on several attempts I made to get mine repaired. I finding myself buying used replacements on Ebay for less than 50 bucks.

Id love to see the testing with CORDED angle grinders.. and other corded tools. I have very few cordless devices.. Yes I know batteries have improved.. but they still leave me with a bad taste in my mouth so prefer corded tools. Im an industrial tech.. have been one for 36 yrs... corded tools still get the majority of my work.

@1pcfred Ive had to teach my DIL how to use a tape now that she is doing "crafts" as a hobby. She gets the marked fractions..not smart enough to use the standard type..unfortunately...sigh

@P_RO_ Im 67 yrs old. From a very early age I used Standard measurement. When I became an engineer..I used standard. When I opened my own company...I used standard. Frankly..in the US..Standard is king. Metric has never really caught hold, though we are given all sorts of encouragement to use metric. Perhaps in another generation or 2 it may happen..but today..most work is done in inches or decimal equivelents. And yeah...I fix machinery in machine shops..so I have far more experience with metric than most people..but its nearly all bolt and thread sizes..almost never anything else.
1
@BigBear-- Nasa had to go metric to meet international requirments. But Ill tell you when you ask any of their employees for a tape measure...it will be in Standard.

Please try "Stabil" brand.

The chipping is coming from the fact you are turning them about 2-3x the speed that the HSS cutters are rated for. Same with the dulling. Run them from 40-100 rpm and they will last a very long time. The Carbide tipped cutters are being run a little fast, but they can live with it. I have a couple sets of Carbide cutters and 2 Milwaukee mag drills. Working with 1" plate in the field, nothing else works. In the shop, Ill use a 3hp milling machine, and fluted bits cause they are far cheaper, but in the field, its really hard to beat good annular cutters.

@chris746568462 You mean they will come back and buy mote batteries. The old Nicads sucked. Thr nmih sucked a little less. The lithiums suck a lot less.. but unless its light duty.. ill stick with corded. I do industrial/automation/machine tool repair.

Next time you do a cord test.. please try an Oil Resistance test. I have to do a lot of work in machine shops and have to toss perfectly good cords away when they are 6 months old, because they get covered with oil, and even with a wipe down, will suck oil into the jacket material and then the cords get hard as a rock and the first bending..will break holes into the jacket . Great test as usual though!!

Where are the Baldors? Ive got Baldors that come up to full speed in less than 2 seconds. My 3ph Baldors are at full speed in about 3/4 seconds. Heck.. Ive got a Craftsman from the 1970s thats 8" that will beat anything with exception of the Jet.

@svn5994 I am an outside service tech..hired to fix or modify machine tools in various machine shops. Typically what Ill do after my tools have been raided is to multiply their value by 2x and simply add it to the bill. I had a guy steal a Fowler digital micrometer ..this when they were first on the market. Lots of money.. 300 bucks worth. I come back to the machine Im working on... and my mic is gone. Looking around... I spot the operator of the next machine.. going out the parking lot door with the mic case in his hand. The door closes behind him and I run and peep out the door ..and see him open his car door and slide it under the front seat. I make note of the car. When he returns to his machine..Im opening and closing panels, tool boxes etc. I ask him if he had seen my mic.. and he smerks and says no. A moment or two later I stop.. and say "damn.. I know where I left it! Be right back". Grabbing a 2lb brass hammer.. I exit and go out to the parking lot where I smash the drivers door window, slam the door open Hard several times then reach under the seat and grab my $300 micrometer. I slam the now misa km igned door closed and retun to the machine Im working on. I held it up so the guy could see it... and the hammer and simply say.. "found it!". Watching the color of his face turn bright red.. then quickly fade to fish belly white.. was worth it. He walked out.. and never came back. No idea if he took a sick day or simply quit. I do know that the old guy on the machine to my other side.. coughed. .snickered, and then started full belly laughs for some time, and got the hiccups as a result.
