I lost my home in the Coalinga Earthquake of 1982. I lost a house in a forest fire in Michigan in the mid 70s., and nearly lost my life in a tornado a year later. Life is good.

@KentoLeoDragon i grew up in Houghton Michigan, my family has lived there since the early 1800s. Many houses had (2) front doors. One on the ground floor, one on the second. When the snow got so deep, the second floor entry was used. Average yearly snow fall there is 230 inches. 300 was not uncommon. That is over 25 feet. Plus the drifting. We often would tunnel out to the street so we could go to school or to work.

@marcteenhc9793 Thank God we dont have presidents like LBJ anymore. He was an utter disaster. However.. that being said... the ones since then have almost been as bad.. a couple have been worse.

@constipatedinsincity4424 Probably the Coalinga Earthquake. It changed the direction my life went completely. My company moved me to another city because our office was smashed and housing was unavailable, I took over control of that department, 15 yrs later I moved in another different field, etc etc. 3 career changes later... Ive owned my own business now for the past 20+ yrs etc etc. In retrospect.. It certainly did me no favors...but did me no harm... well... not a lot of harm... not as much harm... humm.. we all survived. Shrug.

@RichWhiteUM I was in a shopping mall and the public background music was Led Zeppelin mixed with the Doors... and I stopped in mid stride. Wife looked at me funny.. and I looked over at her and said.. our revolutionary music is now mainstream. She shrugged. She is Not a history buff... lol

I have been in temps of -64, in cold dead air. When the wind blew.. it actually got warmer. Eastern northen lower Michigan, 1973. I was freshly back from Vietnam. Heck of a weather change for me.

@Nathan_Whaley-g8m I was born raised in the UP (Michigan's Upper Peninsula) With a 280" average winter snowfall...and getting Snow Shovel Shoulder at an early age..I moved ultimately to California. In the desert.

You just described what every race and tribe has done through history. Slavery is not a "black thing"...its a HUMAN thing. To blame it on the Brits and Americans..is slackwitted buffoonery at its worst. Slavery STILL exists in Africa. No whites involved. Slavery has existed for 10s of thousands of years. The wheel of history turns slowly...but it keeps turning. There is likely to be slavery in the distant future. Shrug.

During one of our family reunions.. back when I was 10 or so, back in the early 60s, a discussion came up amongst the adults discussing the family burial plot. There were close to 50 family members buried there and the adults were discussing them, who they were, how many kids they had.. the usual stuff to keep memories alive. An uncle said " We are or will all buried here except for (name forgotten) and he is still somewhere in Russia and I recall "1919" mentioned. This was during the Cuban Missle Chrisis.. so that bit of info stayed with me all these years. Given that it was only about 40 yrs before, it was one of the uncles brothers.. it wasnt all that long a time for the family. Heck..I still remember stuff from the 80s.... so it wasnt very long. I need to dig into the family records and find out which uncle it was. The family is from the UP of northern Michigan..so the weather would have been just like home. A hell of a place to die. and a lousy reason.

@johnwriter8234 Also check the atrocities committed on Americans by the Moros. And google why Marines are called "leather necks"

A very large number of the Baby Lift children were half black, so they were very noticable..and the hoi poli Vetnamese didnt much care for them. Getting them out of 'Nam truely did save their lives. Many that stayed...have had a very..very rough life in country. There were thousands who stayed behind..still had a mother or relative to care for them. Its Not been easy for a half breed baby to grow and thrive in the political and cultural environment of Vietnam since then. Kudos! to the people who undertook this great effort.

@TheHistoryGuyChannel Cool! I was looking at his expression and he didnt look like he wanted to be up there. Probably had enough and wanted down. Cuddling is always on THEIR terms...never ours. (Grin)

"The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary." James Nicoli
