  3. I hated them. They were fragile as hell, easy to get the adjustment gear filled with mud and mang and the optics are dark and hard to see through. The jungle is not a bright and sunny place..and peering through ones butt hole while looking for the people who are looking for you..was not..not a fun time of my life. The later Leatherwood ART scopes that we in the Army used..were far far superior. Still a bit fragile..but nowhere like the Unertil/Lyman scopes. I should mention that on bright ranges in the open..the Unertil/Lyman scopes are quite good..which is why they can be found on several of my competition rifles today. But my combat rifles..much different scopes.

  9.  @dragonkingf3  Absolutely. In fact, at that time... I serviced the machinery in a shop in California that made the nozzles for the airbag inflators Takata used in their products. The shop had GOOD standards and kept up high quality control as a matter of pride.. up until the moment they got a phone call and Takata canceled their contract immediately. I know for a fact that the parts leaving the shop were in spec and well made. They were not paid for the last shipment of parts either. Those little nozzles, about the size of a 25 cent piece and about 3/8" tall were shipped out weekly in 55 gallon drums, many drums at a time. 180 people were suddenly unemployed. They came to work.. and the doors were "locked". The owners of the company nearly bankrupted themselves making sure everyone of their employees was paid. The owners were very very nice and decent people and took a huge personal hit to take care of their employees. I was an outside vendor but they took care of me as well. They were making parts to spec and shipping them on time. Takata screwed them blind. Company name = Multiscrew Manufacturing IRRC. La Habra, California. Thanks for the video. Id almost forgotten this.

  13.  @1995martin  it was pretty fucked up..typical air/tree burst casualty..but it had been as tall as most Americans..covered in redish brown fur..missing the face and half the head..an arm and leg and a half a torso..but I pulled as many bits as I could find together..nothing Id ever seen..reminded me of the legends of big foot from growing up in the woods in northern Michigan.

Nice heavy and unbalanced round at 3200 fps would work as well as the 6.5 Grendal/6.8 etc etc. Ive hunted medium game with the .243..deer of course..wild boar with a heavy non varmint style bullet. It kills very well and out to at least 600 meters.

Odd that you should mention that...I grew up in an American/Finn household and after WW2..Finland didnt have a lot of hip slick and cool modern American/high tech goods, so we would ship whatever our Distant Finn family needed to them, and in return they would ship Finn goods back to us in the States. I went to elementary school with a fur coat, Lapp mukluks', hunted and fished with Finnish knives and similar stuff. It made for interesting times when a big ol box would come from Soumi and we would crack it open. As a side note...Id not heard Finn spoken in years and lost most of the pigdin Finn we spoke in our Northern Michigan Finn community. I waltzed into the local (California) DMV one day and got whiplash when I heard an employee with a Finn accent. When it was my turn to get to the window, she was standing there and as I was ruffling through my paper work...said "Hyvää huomenta". I looked up and she was frozen like a Cariboo staring at me...and she said "Vat did you say?" and I repeated it "Hyvää huomenta"....and it was like a dam broke loose as she started spewing high speed Finn at me with an amazed look on her face. I smiled and said "Hitaasti!" and she froze again...and then we both started laughing. I explained to her that that was about all the Finn I remembered, and explained growing up in a Finn/American community and recognized her accent immediately despite it having been almost 50 yrs since leaving there. We have become good friends and always greet each other in Finn when I go in...which drives the usual Mexicans and locals crazy. Good times!! I took a 8 month walkabout in Europe in the mid 70s and visited Finland and our family there. Got to see Sako (family was on the engineering staff) and got to meet Simo Hayha, as a favor from my cousins, after mentioning Id been a 11B-4 in Vietnam. Very nice man. We spent a nice afternoon at his home discussing war.

But you don't hear the "antifa" movement or anyone else on the Left talking about Democrats' shameful involvement in American history, nor do many speak of Republicans' brave work on behalf of African Americans. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, a Republican, appointed Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren who penned the Brown v. Board of Education decision that ended school segregation forever. It was also a Republican, Sen. It was Republican President Richard M. Nixon who introduced the "Philadelphia Plan" that serves as the blueprint for affirmative action today. It was Republican President Ronald Reagan who in 1984 signed into law the holiday now known as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. That's right, these were Republicans — not Democrats. As more "antifa" protests are expected this summer and into the fall, leading up to their night of hell planned for November 4, it is vitally important that revisionist history is not permitted to be foisted upon Americans. The truth about who was on the right side of history and who was in the wrong lies in the voting records and those records lie in the National Archives and the Library of Congress. No amount of statue-toppling nor spin from the Left can ever erase it.

No.. they certainly are not 2000 custom guns. But they work. And that is what most owners care about. There have been a crapload of torture tests on them over the years, and have come out quite well. Better actually then some big named firearms.

  23. 1 cubic foot of acetylene can/will literally detonate. So the tanks hold the "storage media" so there isnt a cubic foot of gas in one bubble. There have been some terrible accidents when acetylene leaked out into a container..such as the trunk of a car while transporting it. It has the power of a medium level high explosive and the pictures of demolished automobiles and other "containers" are horrific. Google them.

  32. while I live in very similar country in Central California.. one of the big differences between Texas (the parts in the video) is that in Texas, a lot more people live out on the farms and not so much in the towns. So they are only coming into town for groceries, fuel and government. When they take a weekend off.. they leave the area. I live in a small town in California (Taft) that grew up in the middle of the oil fields. It too is a dying town. Not laid out like Texas, the oilfields tended to keep the people living closer together because it doesnt have as much agricuture. Though Bakersfield is fair sized, we live in the 3rd largest county in California (Kern Co) .. and we have some mighty big ones.. the county population is only 800,000. The town I live in was the heart of Standard Oil until the 70s, when the 1 mile by 1 mile complex was shut down. There are 2 small small towns within 7 miles of Taft, one has less than 50 people living there, the other has 300-400 at most. From that point.. closest town is 40 miles away. At one time.. the population was... 90,000 in the area. Today its lucky to be 18,000. The 1987 Oil Crunch, when it cost $15 a barrel to get the oil out of the ground.. but was only selling for $7.. killed this town. Its been slowly gurgling and gasping its way to a very slow death. Sad. I like it here. But Im now 69.. and want to leave here.. just cant afford to do so.

  37. I repair all types of machine tools in machine shops and Bondhus is found in all of my tool bags and boxes. For light duty work.. the HF work well enough and I keep a few sets of them in my service truck. Cheap as hell when they go on sale, I give them away to employees who need an allen wrench set.. with the warning at they are not bad.. but not great. Id run Elland.. and tney rounded or snapped early in their life span. As the tests show.. Craftsman are not half bad at all and I have a pair set in my work bench at home.

They get some kid to come and program, then have the nearly minimum wage (often illegal aliens here in the Western states) push the green button and use a Chicom Caliper that hasnt been certified in 5 yrs and only dropped on the floor 10 times this month to check aerospace parts and the owners wonder why the rejection rates are so feaking high. I am NOT a machinist! But far too many of my clients come to me for advise on the best way to make a widget. Sad really...

Everything was offshored. American companies were gutted by investing jackles..and their own stupidity thinking they didnt have to evolve and change with the technology. Brown and Sharp? Where are they? Acme-Gridley? Etc etc. We are Still a technological powerhouse.. With all of our best designs built overseas and for the biggest profit margins possible. But these Chinese and Indian kids are taking our designs..adding smaltz to them..selling them in our markets and eating our lunch. The economic disparity is one of the biggest killers. In China..a family of 4 can eat very well for 5 bucks a day. You cant even buy a burger in the US for 5 bucks. Yet we still send em dollars. Think they could buy a stick of gum for a fist full of yen?

  70. China has a large "military" but it has zero ability to get its troops to the US. Russia has a much smaller military..and they are way too smart to try to get their troops to the US. China would lose millions of troops in a matter of days..which would be good for China. Russia would lose millions as well..which would destroy Russia. When the nukes fall on the Three Gorges Dam and destroy it...it will flood the entire Yangtze Valley, kill 100 million Chinese, destroy a significant amount of Chinese industry and technology, along with most of their military manufacturing and navel forces and likely put China back into a land filled with the starving , the dead and dying and could well return China to a feudal society within 20 yrs, But hey...if thats what you want...shrug.

Dont forget..America is made up of 50 different political bodies, "Federal Law" has little to do with knives and clubs and so forth. In many states one can carry a 12" long hunting knife on ones hip (openly) if one wishes. Switch Blades (automatic knives) are totally legal in many others. I carry daily (3) pocket knives, all of which are within Californias (restrictive) law..and each has blade lengths shorter than 3.75 inches (9.5 centimeters) which is the legal limit for a concealed knife (in my pockets) here in California..which again..is a restrictive state. On the other hand..I have over 100 firearms, including 20+ handguns. And carry concealed daily and have done so for 32 yrs..in California...again..a restrictive state. The only permit I need...is my concealed weapons permit..so the government has no clue what arms I own..and its none of their business. Many states have removed the requrement from having a CCW to carry a concealed weapon..and more states are following this. Carry any side arm one wishes in any fashion one wishes. So even (most) we are freer than Sweden. But they have the government they want. Shrug..each to their own. I do love my Swedish Mausers though!! I have more than 6 of them. Still looking for the really short carbine to add to the collection..

When the snow got so deep, the second floor entry was used. Average yearly snow fall there is 230 inches. 300 was not uncommon. That is over 25 feet. Plus the drifting. We often would tunnel out to the street so we could go to school or to work.

When I was growing up in the 1960s.. the schools also taught safety about explosives and military booby traps and whatnot. The area I was raised in had a very LARGE military training area and between sessions, the ranges were wide open and much hunting, fishing and skylarking was done on those ranges. Occasionially some tourist would come out to the area, dig something up, take it home and blow up their house. Seldom/Never happened with local kids. So...was it responsible or irresponsible for schools to NOT teach...to refuse to teach at least the basic safety measures when around high explosives and common firearms? This in an area btw...that had..like many other places in America... the first day of hunting season as a school day off. So guns should only be taught to members of the military?   175. On one of your California visits, explore the Westside of the Central Valley. From the foot of the Grapevine and keep to the west side of the valley through Kings City and even farther north. You will see oilfields that stretch for 80 miles, you will see some lovely (and dying) small towns, Taft, Avenal, Coalinga etc etc as you travel north through the almond and pestachio orchards that also stretch for miles. On your way back south.. take Hiway 58 to Pismo and explore the mountains between the Valley and the coast. Some beautiful vistas and country side. Its quite a bit different than the parts of California you usuall go to.

  191. Thats because it was designed to shoot the 200gr D166 /D46 bullet. All you need to do is either replace the front site with a taller one..or braze a bit on top. Or shoot the heavy bullets. A nice heavy cast bullet shot at cast bullet speeds is both inline with the sights and very very cheap to reload for.

  350. When putting in 8 foot flourescent bulbs, go to the opposite end of the spring loaded end and push the bulb into the fixture distant spring loaded side then simply clip in your end. And many of those fixtures will NOT light up without both bulbs installed. Putting in only one will not turn them on. It depends on the ballast in the light fixture. Ive made a lot of service calls replacing (1) bulb and having the fixture come alive.

  452. There are (2) kinds of cops. Law Enforcement officers.. think Barney Fife. And there are Peace Officers.. think Andy of Mayberry. The Law Enforcement type is generally an assh^le who wants to make stats (think Quota) and the Peace Officer is exactly that. He keeps an eye out for crime, solves it properly with no hijinks and is there to keep the peace. We have a mix in modern law enforcement. Far too many agencies actually have a quota to fill. X number of traffic stops per month, x number of tickets etc etc.. all things that generate revenue. Other agencies look at crime and keeping it low is the goal. Then of course we have the Gestapo agencies.. often those located along major east/west freeways that fund their town, using every unconstitutional trick that can be found in the Foul Cops Tricks Manual. Most of these dirt bag organizations are small town agencies, and most of the good ones are Sheriff Departments. That being said... the stinkers in each type are notible and horrifying.

  454. Im a professional machine tool mechanic. I have a ton of Proto, SnapOn, Craftsman etc etc. When I have to buy a tool that I may not have on the truck while Im on the road, HF gets my money. HF has improved their QA a BUNCH and I have no issues buying a tier 2 or tier 3 tool from HF. Tier 1 tools are better than they were 10 yrs ago... but.. its pushing ones luck if one buys a Tier 1 tool for an industrial use. They are "ok" for one or two uses by a home owner shrug.. but.. I avoid buying Tier 1 like the plague because I use them in an industrial environment.. Stuff like air tools, soldering gear, etc etc are wobblers between the good and the less good. Take care of them.. they last a long time and work well. Pnenumatic tools, work well. Power tools, work well. Ive burned up more than a few of the cheap angle grinders in the past 20 yrs purchased at HF...so now I simply buy the good Tier 2/3 tools and never worry about them. Yes.. I have high end stuff.. generally at home in my shop. I go into a lot of places that the employees will clean out a tool box while Im on a bathroom break...so HF (and yard sale) tools is what I generally work with. If I have to do something special.. use a 10" proto impact socket on an IR 1" impact driver.. Ill load it up from home, and at the end of the project... take it back home. HF has been a money and time saver for me. Big thumbs up!

Frankly..in the US..Standard is king. Metric has never really caught hold, though we are given all sorts of encouragement to use metric. And yeah...I fix machinery in machine shops..so I have far more experience with metric than most people..but its nearly all bolt and thread sizes..almost never anything else.

From the parking lot side.. it should be turning clockwise if it not marked or labeled.. Worst comes to worst.. use your welding outlet breaker. Teflon tape should not be used if you have air tools or air solenoids. Use pipe dope instead. Keeps the bits of tape from winding up inside the air motors of your tools.

Even from above the rear sight..lining up the front sight with your targets center of mass gives you a decent enough aiming ability. You are not shooting for the collar button on the left side of his chest..you are shooting at the center of his chest. There have been a number of "modern" shooting techniques taught in the past 40 yrs that emphasize the front sight in combat shooting and largely ignore the rear. They do work, and well enough.

  598. The chipping is coming from the fact you are turning them about 2-3x the speed that the HSS cutters are rated for. Same with the dulling. Run them from 40-100 rpm and they will last a very long time. The Carbide tipped cutters are being run a little fast, but they can live with it. I have a couple sets of Carbide cutters and 2 Milwaukee mag drills. Working with 1" plate in the field, nothing else works. In the shop, Ill use a 3hp milling machine, and fluted bits cause they are far cheaper, but in the field, its really hard to beat good annular cutters.

  654. During one of our family reunions.. back when I was 10 or so, back in the early 60s, a discussion came up amongst the adults discussing the family burial plot. There were close to 50 family members buried there and the adults were discussing them, who they were, how many kids they had.. the usual stuff to keep memories alive. An uncle said " We are or will all buried here except for (name forgotten) and he is still somewhere in Russia and I recall "1919" mentioned. This was during the Cuban Missle Chrisis.. so that bit of info stayed with me all these years. Given that it was only about 40 yrs before, it was one of the uncles brothers.. it wasnt all that long a time for the family. Heck..I still remember stuff from the 80s.... so it wasnt very long. I need to dig into the family records and find out which uncle it was. The family is from the UP of northern Michigan..so the weather would have been just like home. A hell of a place to die. and a lousy reason.

I have to do a lot of work in machine shops and have to toss perfectly good cords away when they are 6 months old, because they get covered with oil, and even with a wipe down, will suck oil into the jacket material and then the cords get hard as a rock and the first bending..will break holes into the jacket . Great test as usual though!!

  673. as a life time liquid lantern user.. 1. Fill. 2. Pump. 3. Stick in a match, 4, open the valve slowly. 5. When flame is established, open valve to light level you want. The only difference between kero and white gas/unleaded.. is the "air valve" on white/gas lanterns..which is akin to the choke on a car. The reason the kero lanterns go out immediately.. is flame temperature. You may not be able to see it but on the screen its quite significant. The white gas lantern burns MUCH hotter with little soot and it burns quite "white", while the kero lantern burns much cooler with a more yellow flame. When running any lantern on unleaded gasoline, it will soot up a little more than kero, but not as clean as Naptha (Coleman fuel). Gasoline is the cheapest fuel by far. However.. gasoline will gum up if it has any alcohol in it. If you can find pure gasoline (and I use Aviation gas, about 7.50/gallon ), it will last up to 5 or more years in storage. But it will.. will..over time, go bad. Naptha on the other hand.., will store forever. Literally. It never goes bad and will outlast the sun (Grin) If you can find a 5 gallon can of industrial naptha.. its very cheap, around 50 bucks . Coleman/etc has a huge mark up on it, shrug. I hit a lot of yard sales and estate sales and always buy any partial cans of Coleman/etc fuel. Most often people will completely ignore these cans and I get them very cheap. Bring them home, and simply combine partial cans into a good gallon Coleman can., I keep at least 10 gallons of naptha on hand at any one time, and have cans that were purchased 50 yrs ago that are still good. I have at least 15 lanterns of various types and sizes and at least 4 stoves, from single burner micro stoves to 3 burner suitcase stoves. I should also mention that Naptha is available at any hardware/big box store in the paint department. Its used as a solvent/cleaner for paint brushes etc etc and can..can.. can be had cheaper than a gallon of Coleman fuel. Just saying... Propane is Ok.. but it burns cooler than naptha. If you run a propane device, get the hose attachment so you can run off a 5 gallon bottle..a BBQ bottle and it will last a fair amount of time. The other advantage of propane, is the hose attachment "tree" can be used to fire a lantern, a stove etc all at the same time. And like naptha..it lasts forever. As you noted.. its not as cost effective as naptha, but if you have the space..it works well enough. The single issue/advantage of any flame burning lanterns is heat. When running.. they are hot. Not so good in the mid summer, marvelous in deep winter. Fortunately in summer, you are out in the open, winter you are closed up. That being said.. they HAVE to be used in an area with ventilation. CO will kill if you are in an air tight tent or room and run one of these without ventilation. I consider rechargable lights to be 'temporary spot sources". Battery tech currently is not good enough to supply lighting that will last more than a few hours in a very small area and you have to have a significant number of lithium batteries on charge at any time, or run a big multi amp hour battery and a big solar charger to keep it topped off during daylight hours. But..., if you do have access to both solar cells and a big battery.., it is quite doable. But it doesnt pack well and is best consided to be used at a fixed location. I belive your channel comes out of Canada? US prices are slightly different than Canadian prices as I recall.. Canadian dollar being worth.. 65-75 cents ?, American so one has to use a bit of mental conversion figureing out the price differences. I typically find used Coleman lanterns for 5-10 dollars American, used with stoves about the same. The single most expensive part of these devices is replacement globes (they are pyrex) and mantels. One can buy Coleman mantels or chinese knock offs for very very little money. Ebay of course is great for New Old Stock and chinese globes are...ok but expect them to not survive rough movement. Oh.. a standard old style NON dual fuel Coleman/et al will burn gasoline quite well, but the generator will fail in a few years, rather than in 20 yrs, so keep that in mind as well if stocking up on spare parts. Burning gasohole will reduce the life span as well, if not emptied when putting them back in storage after use. But you can indeed safely use gasoline of any kind (including skunky gasoline) in any Colman type device. Skunky gas may not provide as clear white a light as a lot of the lighter products have evaporated out of the fuel. But in a pinch.. will work.

There was 6 months of panic, indecision and angst after Pearl Harbor. We had a very small military, we had almost no industry and few military aircraft. For over a year.. the US expanded its factories and its aircraft producton and started training pilots, soldiers, sailors. The US had almost no war fighting capability we could send to Europe for that first year, and even then it was mostly technical specialists being sent to survey, deliver data and so forth. We were fighting and running from the Japs on the other side of the planet and really had little going on Europe for almost 2 yrs before our war machine got big enough to do much, and then it was in Africa and Italy, so a lot of flights were south into South America and then over to Africa and the middle east. Do a time line search on WW2 here on Youtube.. you may find out your teachers glossed over much.

Upon graduation, went to the local JC for 6 months, said fuggit and went into the Army. 8 yrs on the street in central California as a deputy sheriff and building an alarm company on the side, taught me that I didnt like being a cop, let alone in an agency that was corrupt as hell... And the rest is history. Now when you can match up with that job history.. let me know and Ill pay more attention to your buffoonery. Under and over steer generally shows up and is of a concern when "driving too fast for the conditions". This is only something either very experienced drivers will encounter.. or very poor drivers encounter. I live in a dry state so water on the roadway is not something we encounter nor is ice. And your method of attachment... snicker.. but hey.. if it works for you. The stamped loop on the inside of each side of the clamp is where you are supposed to solder the ends of the wires. Typically what Ill do after my tools have been raided is to multiply their value by 2x and simply add it to the bill. I had a guy steal a Fowler digital micrometer ..this when they were first on the market. Lots of money.. 300 bucks worth. I come back to the machine Im working on... and my mic is gone. Looking around... I spot the operator of the next machine.. going out the parking lot door with the mic case in his hand. The door closes behind him and I run and peep out the door ..and see him open his car door and slide it under the front seat. I make note of the car. When he returns to his machine..Im opening and closing panels, tool boxes etc. I ask him if he had seen my mic.. and he smerks and says no. A moment or two later I stop.. and say "damn.. I know where I left it! Be right back". Grabbing a 2lb brass hammer.. I exit and go out to the parking lot where I smash the drivers door window, slam the door open Hard several times then reach under the seat and grab my $300 micrometer. I slam the now misa km igned door closed and retun to the machine Im working on. I held it up so the guy could see it... and the hammer and simply say.. "found it!". Watching the color of his face turn bright red.. then quickly fade to fish belly white.. was worth it. He walked out.. and never came back. No idea if he took a sick day or simply quit. I do know that the old guy on the machine to my other side.. coughed. .snickered, and then started full belly laughs for some time, and got the hiccups as a result.

One of my migs is loaded with stainless wire and does the yoemans work on everything in the shop that isnt "iron" Btw.. there is another cracked part at 3 oclock from that clamp in the square tubing behind the pipe.
