  11. Maine here. We regularly lose power (blackout not brownout) for 3+ weeks. So tired of hearing about Texas and California :/ shutup you idiots. Experience some real outages at 40 below zero and stop whining.

  15. This is a very interesting concept. I have run aquariums for over 40 years, and have made many, many filters with carbon and charcoal, and other media, so this was a lot of fun to watch. I know the charcoal has a limited life, so it's interesting that in the field, you can easily generate your own charcoal to rebuild your filter. Really great video!

  20. I can add to this. I grew up in a railroad family. My father was a railroad engineer, his father was the station manager. My father supported us, my mother didn't have to work. We had a nice house, multiple cars, my father was into sports cars. We had a Corvette, a Camaro, a Mustang, and a Chevy jacked up truck. These all followed another by trade ins. We also had a lakehouse. Upper middle class. My classmates thought I was rich. My grandfather got a new Cadillac every year, got my grandmother nice jewelry, and one year got her a fur coat (this was the 80's). When my parents went on vacation and my grandparents dropped me off at school, the kids thought I was being dropped off in a limo - the Cadillac. My father's brother (my uncle) was also a railroad engineer like my father, they all worked for the same railroad like everyone in town. He also was into cars and trucks. He lived in a big house on the lake. This thing with railroad workers needing more money is a hoax. But it is one of the few good jobs left.

We had home economics up until the 90's to teach us various things like how to cook, portion size, budgeting, menu planning, and other things like sewing, planning for food shopping or clothing shopping (household budgeting). We had classes of 50/50 males/females. It was very helpful as a young person starting out to have the skills I learned in that class. It seems like the most obvious class to keep in junior high and high school. Its common sense.

As for this digital ID, we already have a social security number in the US, everyone seems to forget about. Internet companies require it upon set up. It's required for everything. You might be able to pay cash for food, but you can't get that cash without it.

If you could do another video of your grocery store to show the prices, and especially how stocked your store is (and if you have much empty shelves).   30. I really enjoyed this, Lilly! In the US, there is one way to do canning (or else!). So I've never seen it done this way. I love seeing new methods. I especially enjoyed seeing that the rubbers are available in Europe, as I haven't seen them in the US since the 70's. They've decided they can make a lot more money with disposable lids, requiring consumers to have to buy new ones each time they can. Maybe I can get some from Europe, if they fit the old jars! That would be great!

  31. My grandparents lived through the Great Depression and my grandfather fought in WW2. Toilet paper was never on their minds. However, they kept a big garden their whole lives and my grandmother always canned foods and they kept a large pantry full of foods to last the whole winter. Toilet paper is silly having lived what they lived through. They didn't have plumbing in those days, and I asked my grandfather what they used for toilet paper when he was a kid, he answered, the Sears catalog. He said they would peruse the page and then use it -- lol

There are bunkers all over airports and bases. I know of several in my rural area in 1960's ranch houses built in that era, that don't look like fancy houses. people put them in their cellar.

  54. My boyfriend has a second job at a grocery store here in the US. Still lots of panic buying and empty shelves. They are receiving trucks, but supply comes gradually - as it always has with just a little of everything at a time (Walmart), so when a little flour, bread, toilet paper, and so on comes in each day, people go nuts and immediately buy it. People try and time their shopping with when they believe deliveries arrive, coming in at store opening, or close to store closing. The store has put up signs on some items with "limit 1 per person". People have thrown loaves of bread at him in anger. It is a very weird time. Yet - the store is still full of many items, such as, the people could still buy bread from the bakery area, so the store does still have bread, just not the regular commercial loaves - the bakery area is fully stocked.

  76. 2.17% is not true and anticipated to be much higher. That number is based on China's figures, of those tested as a percentage of deaths. However, there is a huge amount of China's population untested and recovering at home during their quarantine, thus the death percentage is off. Not to mention, China has notorious for not reporting accurate amounts throughout this. See Dr. John Campbell's channel for more about this.

  77. My gosh, are those bomb sirens? Terrifying. In the US, I live near a military airport and the big planes have been coming in - unusual. I'm guessing they've been transporting in the troops and maybe large vehicles. They come in all night, and they are very loud.

  79. Here in the US, in our frequent blackouts, they would rather load dumpsters full of all of the cooler (dairy and produce) and freezer foods than give it away. Where I am in northern Maine, US, we have multiple power outages lasting 3-4 days SEVERAL times a year, at least 3 that are a week or longer. They dump the coolers and freezers often.

  85. I can see in the comments that a lot of people are still in denial. In the US, nurses are essentially useless for medical - people seem to think of WWII movies but that is not the case now. Instead you'd be better off with a military medic, veterinarian, obviously a doctor, or even a first responder that can stabilize until you locate one of the previously mentioned higher trained resources!

The US bombed Japan twice during WWII and most of the population was ok, except for the long term consequences you mentioned (same as Cherynoble, cancer). 3. With what you mentioned, it seems like the largest concern is the aftereffects, which would be FOOD. If you can't eat out of your garden afterwards, you can't eat milk, dairy, maybe eggs, etc. that is something we need to prepare for.

  100. Lilly, I am a vegetarian and I order frequently from Swansonvitamins, they are very inexpensive, have a supplement that helped my low iron a lot- blackstrap molasses. I get probiotics and other supplements. They have lots of sales. I don't work for them or receive incentive :)

  103. William Logan I live in a similar area in Maine and all of what you said is about the same for me. You need that gas in the car should the power go out, sometimes for weeks, to charge batteries and so forth. Sometimes we are unable to get gas at the station for several days, with all the people getting gas for their generators. I do keep several extra cans of gas for the generator.

I would also wonder in seeing what was on the conveyor belt, the heavy canned food, there was no way the man could take this in one trip on a bike. This could suggest he might not have much gasoline in the bike, or that he did not have the ability to realize that the weight balance would not work out well. In any case, making fun of the man or the situation is in poor taste.
