That really depends on where you are at in the central valley. The northern central valley gets plenty of rain. But down by the grape vine, yea desert.

@ChullChouta Nah you just need to have your exit pipes go deep. They do it in Japan fine. If you do it like the Arabs where you just dump it straight into the gulf or red sea, both of which are extremely shallow, you have those problems.

@mr.elastomeric1787 Thats the funniest thing. I use to live not far from where the Feather river and the Sacramento rivers met up. Before California did its great water management project to deal with the constant flooding all the rivers in northern California would go dry in the summer. Yet the fish managed to survive year after year. The Delta smelt is a canard used by environmentalists and the rec industry to make sure the rivers have enough water for boating. Its a huge industry.

It could produce enough for people. But never enough for agriculture. The massive amounts of water needed are staggering.
