  1. A lot of folks dont understand how games are funded. Microsoft doesnt open up their big Scrooge McDuck vault and hand studios money. It borrows money, like movie studios do, to finance games. The issue is over the last 15ish years, the interest rates have been damn near zero. That has all sort of distorting effects in markets. Since money was so cheap all sorts of studios that should never have existed, did. This is just a cleansing of things that never should have been. Because of the more expensive cost of money today, the industry is having to recalculate how they do their ROI on projects. This means a lot of studios, under the new business environment just are not going to survive. This is hitting all industries though, not just gaming. Its a repurposing of labor and capital. And it will be a long term good thing. It will eventually deliver a better product.

  2.  @Chihirolee3  They may have been successful via the old ROI math. We dont have those numbers. But just because a game sells well, that is really only half the calculation. You have to look at shop overhead. You dont know what those studios are spending money on, neither do I. As I stated, cheap money has allowed for all sorts of nonsense in many different fields. Is it possible that corporate overlords have favorites and are making choices based on that? Maybe. But do you think those kind of business choices will lead to long to long term success? The end result would be the same culling, which is really long overdue. My reasoning is sound. Its why I was able to retire at 45.

  3.  @marg7772  The invisible hand of the market is just the individual choices of the millions of capital markets, producers and purchasers. They all lead to a choice. Sometimes one, sometime a few sometimes many. And any little change in those individuals choices can have massive effects on the market. But in the end its just individual choices.

  4.  @ricardohoang8452  I personally think Starfield will get the Andromeda treatment. But I am not in charge of Microsoft. Perhaps they feel Starfield is to high profile to abandon. I will be honest, I never have even heard of Hi-fi Rush until this video. But I am an old gamer. Been playing since 1979. So a few are bound to slip past me.
