The thing is, if costs go up, but business traffic stays the same a business will still close. Its not necessarily a sign of a weakening economy. If your costs go up you must find a way to make more money or cut costs. If you raise your prices you price out some customers dropping your revenue or at best keeping it the same. What it is a sign of is that price controls, via the Fed, have not happened as per their mandate. They cant raise rates further because banks will start imploding. That will cause the economy to go into recession. Yet they seem hesitant to pull the trigger on it. The question is why? When you answer that question, everything becomes clear. But with 40% of GDP coming from the government, the economy isnt going to dip into recession until they cut spending. Neither Biden nor Trump is going to cut spending.
