  3. How were surrenders done? I understand an individual or squad tossing their weapons into the open and putting their hands up. But what about larger groups. Does an officer march out with a white flag and hope to be recognized before being used for target practice? Radio? It didn't seem like they had many, and you might not want to let more fanatical units in the area know your intentions. Or, at a certain point were observers told to keep an eye out for signs that the other side was giving up?
