  1. Back during the Rodney King riots I asked why they were looting their own neighborhoods. They clearly have cars and Beverly Hills is a short drive away. The penalty is the same, steal some stuff worth stealing.

  2. I would like to think DeSantis saw a potential problem and stopped it before it started. And I'll give him credit for doing so. But I have a feeling this was pushed heavily by developers and real estate companies primarily in south Florida. They have a lot of power in Tallahassee and realized they were next when it came to takeovers. Vacation homes and condos owned by people who only use them a few months a year are ripe targets for squatters who want to run their "I have a lease" scam.

  4. Don't worry, California and New York will deal with this problem. After the election in November. Before then they need the dumb masses to believe they are doing something about affordable housing and kicking a bunch of squatters out on the streets would make for bad optics. They'll collect the checks from major donors and begin protecting those donors as soon as it's politically feasible.
