  1. By 18th century terminology, when it was written, "well regulated" ment well equipped. The navy considered a properly regulated ship to have extra rope, canvas, gunpowder, tools, etc. A well regulated ship did not refer to one who's crew followed naval code. A well regulated militia is simply one that is prepared to do their job.

  2. Ironically, the courts upheld the ban on things like short barreled rifles and suppressors because they weren't considered appropriate for the military. Now they want to ban stuff because it is, supposedly, too close to military equipment. I wonder if they'd be ok with me putting a silencer on a sawed off shotgun? Probably not.
