I've done long term subbing in public schools and taught in the Florida prison system. I enjoyed the prisoners more. I also thought they learned more. Classes were also more organized and focused, though sometimes surreal. Most of the reason was that my students in prison understood the idea that screwing up had direct consequences.

@rickhunter6513 In Florida the teachers union heavily pushed for education being added as a right in the state constitution. They won. Now they complain that it's almost impossible to expell students even for violence at school. They are sent back right to where it happened, usually along with the people that were their victims. The fact that this is the exact scenario described by those that apposed it is completely lost on them.
