  1. Fire hydrants are actually designed to fight multiple fires at once. Every hydrant is hooked up to a larger system. The drop in pressure is expected, this is why many firetrucks have pumps (Oddly, called pumper trucks) to pull water through at a higher, more useful pressure. But, big but, if you run the system empty (like what happened in LA) no truck can pull something from nothing.
