I was in Chornobyl on May 26, 1986. My mother worked in Chernobyl for 1.5 years, got a disability. Died at 53 years of life. The film is absolutely authentic.

@kellysophia1981 Yes, I live in Kiev now. My health is satisfactory. I am 58 years old. I work in the field of agribusiness, and even sometimes I go to Chernobyl. Now go there from Kiev is easy. I will be glad to meet you. And if you want, I will help you to visit Chernobyl and Pripyat. My post: <ihor141961@gmail.com>

@kellysophia1981 Thanks for the sympathy. Mother underestimated the danger, treated her work with humor. It was such a psychological form protection - black humor.

@Tac0Trash "In five years, we'll be dead". Legasov, who said this, died after 2 years. Shcherbina, to whom he said this, died after 4 years.

@azazali Thanks for the kind words.

I agree. I was born and live in Kiev. Was in Chernobyl in May 1986. The film is absolutely reliable. Actors surprisingly accurately play the Soviet people. I was especially shocked by the actress Jessie Buckley as the wife of a firefighter, and the Lebanese actor who played Bacho. These are absolutely our people. This is an artistic truth. Those who criticize inaccuracies do not take into account the truth of art. This is not a documentary. For example, instead of a library in Moscow filmed Vernadsky Scientific Library in Kiev. This building is fully consistent with the spirit of the era of the 1980s. And in Moscow, the libraries are located in old buildings of the XVIII century.

A nuclear explosion has such a damaging factor as radioactive radiation. And radioactive clouds could cover even a much larger area than to Kiev and Minsk.

It is strange to act as a censor for your own uncle. Alcoholism was really a big problem in the USSR. Gorbachev tried to introduce the so-called "dry law", but he succeeded only in part. In Chernobyl really drank a lot, it was called "deducing radionuclides". On this subject, many jokes were invented. For example: the accident liquidator donates blood for analysis. The doctor says: "In your red wine Cabernet no blood cells were detected".

In the USSR, there was much more vodka and the KGB than was shown in the series.

@Homcomru Спасибо. Мои знания английского довольно поверхностны. Вы будете смеяться, но я общаюсь через переводчика украинской разработки: www.m-translate.com.ua

И мне не 51, а 58

@Math Aguiar Dear friend! Thank.

@OPERASNG кроме водки, там было немало самогона и вина. Так что в сериале пьянство показано даже дистиллированно - только казенка

Dear friend, I have never seen anything as strong and impressive as this show. Maybe Shakespeare? .. But Shakespeare is about the past. And Chernobyl is about the life and death of my loved ones.

Through the Chernobyl accident passed hundreds of scientists, men and women. From the Kurchatov Institute alone, 700 people seem to be there. Perhaps there were more men. But there were a lot of heroic women.

And why only Russian heroism? There were Georgians, Belorussians, Ukrainians and representatives of other nationalities of the USSR. By the way, the head of the elimination of Shcherbina is Ukrainian.

Liquidators really drank a lot. In order to "remove radionuclides" (as they thought). About the Soviet Army. Then there was the military prosecutor's office, military patrols and disciplinary battalions. As for how the Soviet ministers acted, you hardly know for sure. In any case, Prime Minister Khrushchev pounded his shoe on the UN podium, this is well known. Soviet officials threatened not only Legasov, but also academicians Sergei Korolev and Andrei Sakharov. And these were world-famous scientists.

@MrRomanvideo In Chernobyl - more than in other places. The head of the USSR, Gorbachev, personally told (look at 7:06): “According to my assignment, a large group of KGB worked in Chernobyl. They participated in all the talk - in the houses, at dinner..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTKLazCi5e4

Then the Soviet people knew very little about radiation. And this ignorance is accurately conveyed in the series. The policy of the USSR is shown in the series much softer & humane than she really was. In 1986, the USSR fought in Afghanistan, there were hundreds of political prisoners in the country. In the USSR, forced labor camps ("chemistry") and forced hospitals worked for the drunken sobering ("sobering centers"). There was a shortage of food and consumer goods — even wheat was imported. About this in the film does not say anything.
