@Jimigunneful not a stupid remark. It probably was not intentional, but ruling out anything because you refuse to entertain all motives is just ignorant. Praying the truth & results of thorough investigation are revealed and shared with the public.

Exactly. The request for visual should have been denied. You’d think the ATC would be in control of what happens in the air and on the ground. That includes being tougher than the regulations & procedures allow, but not easier. ATC should’ve said NO to helicopter pilot.

@jamesunger8433 policy has to be rewritten full stop. Aircraft moves or halts at the direction of ATC. This is clear as day. ATC can’t presume cross traffic will navigate successfully each and every time. We want perfect record, and should be able to achieve that. If we have even one collision in the airspace or on the ground, then the procedures need rewritten. Human error is not a good reason & computer malfunction is even worse.

@kikimab indeed! That’s a weird one, huh? SMH

@maryn8139 intentional?
2
@serdna9307 we’ve learned not to rule anything out. I heard the helo was conducting training of less experienced pilot(s) onboard.
2
@maryn8139 curious where you got this tidbit? I’d like to read/watch your source so I can be in the loop like you!
2
@TheColJoker the idea ATC can ever be absolved of responsibility astounds me. The ATC is the director of flight operations & safety. The buck stops with the ATC in virtually all scenarios.
2
@jameswiskus8859 that is ludicrous and shouldn’t be allowed under any circumstances.
2
@artstrology we aren’t talking aircraft expertise. The air traffic control is there for a reason, to say Yes, No, and maybe later. Ultimately it’s the tower and its systems that hold the bag especially in this tragic and avoidable incident.
2
@rod1147 maybe the military base was there before the airport?
1
@mattrath8535 the ATC gal let the helo pilot do his/her thing and was less than a 1/4 mile from airliner and obviously piggybacking over the jet. Fault is a combo of stupid policy, procedures & air traffic controller who should’ve slowed operations way down to a S.L.O.W. Crawl.
1
@leisastalnaker3790 I guess you’ve never landed in San Diego? You’re flying literally between roof tops of homes. The airport sits on a bay.
1
@sowhat7983 Trump also wanted advanced technology upgrades to systems but FAA took no action or this request fell on deaf ears in previous administrations
1
@MichelleSalay-w8z was the cause of the accident people, processes, policies, or poor tech systems? It was any or all of these.
1
@KateCarew did Donald Trump fire anyone this week who’s an air traffic controller at Reagan? No he didn’t. The Tower controls the up/down/left/right of what’s allowed in airspace and on the ground.
1
@francis87589 it was four army personnel in the helo, the report I read. I’ve only seen the name of one of the helo’s military pilots so far.
1
@ disagree. Headcount should have no bearing on policy and procedure revisions. Reducing govt will help with holding ppl accountable as well as putting dollars into tech upgrades & training etc Not sure if you’ve done a career in the government or not. If you have and are being honest, you’d know the mothership has far too many on the suckle.
1
@StumpyVanLife I heard that report, too. Could some of the blame lay on the cockpit warning systems? These systems have a distance/range that it’s monitoring.
1
@ pilots are higher in authority than the Tower? SMH of course they aren’t the primary authority.
