  1.  @maryanne2939 I think there were two airliners involved. One stopped in Diego Garcia, the other refueled there and went on to Eastern Europe.

I believe there was another aircraft (military or commercial, I'm not sure) that was closely shadowing flight 370 from the beginning, but both planes coordinated their comms with each other and with various airport towers so as not to show that there was a tandem operation going on. Also, Flight 370's pilot had his cell phone turned on and on a live connection for an extended period of time while everyone else on the flight had their phones go dark.
