@nexus438 staffing is a problem because few people are trained qualified to be air traffic controllers. It’s not a profession you go into unless you have nerves of steel and proven experience perhaps with the military. I also believe there were several people in the tower so I’m very suspicious as to why this story of one person in the Tower would even be “released” to media. Unless there’s a deal to protect some & make someone the scapegoat?

@Kam-er0n supposedly three people. A male pilot with 1000 hours and a woman with 500 hours but I’ve not heard a word about the third person (yet).

@alexfernando4681 if the man from Georgia they identified as the helicopter pilot is actually NOT dead, there’s a lot of explaining that we need to hear. I’m not sure if it was remote controlled or not, although some are saying because the Blackhawk has the remote capability that means it was used in this exercise. Still not convinced either way that we have the right facts. It will come out though over time.

@heavymetalfan001 I do hold ATC responsible for a lot, but at the same time I think the ATC have insane pressure on them from a myriad of forces. Right now I’m thinking the female helicopter pilot with the 500 hrs may have been “flying”? Flying too low also. Also sounds like the comms were on two channels according to report I’ve heard. I’m sure ATCs badge in, so it should be easy to determine who was in Tower.

@rogerlane5890 exactly. The helo pilot doesn’t tell the ATC - it’s the other way around. If ATCs have been keeping quiet when bigwigs & pilots in general try to take over & make decisions when their aircraft is within a certain radius of the airport, then that’s wrong.

@patriotsusan4881 the ATC should not have allowed Visual, period. Idiotic to allow this with airliners in rapid takeoff landing scenarios. Sure, helicopter, go right ahead and dart across the sky, we’re going to throw caution to the wind & then ATC is somehow not responsible??? That’s inconceivable to many of us.
