@margaretmarks7852 The federal government only needs 50% of its workforce. Guaranteed. I retired a couple years ago after two decades. I can say with all sincerity the bloat is REAL.

Cruelty? that's hilarious,

theres always been a glut of contractors - 2/3rds need to be decoupled from the government.

The federal government will give these people good severance and/or their normal pay and benefits for a number of months. The fired need to apply for new jobs NOW, and then in August/September, before they're actually off the payroll, they should have a job if they want one. Got to adjust your living standards and/or tap into savings. It will work out.

@eriks7998 there was no way I was going to resign early. The deal was full pension at 20 years & I achieved that and then exited. You would’ve done the same.

The federal government lost (cut loose) thousands upon thousands of active duty military and federal civilian workforce in the 1980s and in the late 1990s! PEOPLE ACT AS IF THIS IS A BRAND NEW CONCEPT. SMH

@jesusacosta5176 It sure as hell occurred! I was with the military during this time. They gave a ton of early-out's with great severance deals. Federal employees also given exit packages to draw down the numbers.

Having to find a new job is not "hurting" anyone. It's giving a new opportunity in a new environment. The government FAILS its employees by not educating and training them in a state-of-the-art manner whereby they can successfully transfer into the private sector with a good job. Because the fed govt has poor leadership, poor training (overall), and has been a gravy train for decades, the employees who chose to stay with the federal government (the VELVET COFFIN) should not be pitied.

How long is a lot of time? Keep in mind if a federal worker starts looking for a new job, by September they surely should have one!!! Unless they have NO SKILLS or there's no demand for what they can do (a very real problem). However, for the next eight months the employee will continue to get their normal paycheck with benefits. WHERE's THE PROBLEM???? This is one hell of a great deal!

@cflash2785 It's a massive issue for the contractor, but not really my problem.

@snieves4 no they’re not! Total bs

@kimhines3454 I like the hell that’s broken loose in the federal workforce.
1
@littledorrit6819 it’s the best way to go about it.
1
@janelbest1522 no tears for defense contractors.
1
@littledorrit6819 the DECADES of taxpayer funded gravy train are going to come to a halt (or at least stall and derail) for some time to come.

The businesses will sink or swim. It's the hand of fate. Just like how life is. No tears from me.

people are definitely hiring. I've seen people leave companies and work for others within a couple months. If you have the skill sets and now how to prepare for an interview, you've got a great opportunity to make more money and increase your value. SEE the POSITIVE in this, folks!

@MrFernandogj maybe private sector will hire more when economic numbers improve 🙏

@car2029 awesome news! Good on your very sharp smart daughter! After a 50 years career, every job change - including those that were basically forced upon me - ALL proved to be “step up” moves, proved to be a gift to me in the short & long run.

@ephimp3189 It's the only way to cut the fat. The Only Way.

@ we’ve both seen how our (former) agencies pick and choose and who stays and goes. Sometimes it makes sense & sometimes it’s a joke.
