that's why you have homeowners insurance. What you have to do is get and keep homeowners insurance and if it's dropped, you have to move into an apartment or move elsewhere. You don't remain living in your 3.2 million dollar cracker box in Fire, Landslide, and Earthquake Country without it. The state of California has a baseline govt supplemented property insurance option if there's no other way.

@Elena-rt9yu people misunderstand FEMA completely. FEMA is ONLY an ADMINISTRATIVE piece of the government. It is there to assess situations and make decisions whether people/homeowners receive govt aid or not. It's not there for rescue, relief, first responder efforts, etc. It's not 9-1-1.... when will people wake up and see this? the little that FEMA does in direct response to those involved in a catastrophe/natural disaster is hardly worth mentioning.

Do you have mortgage insurance? probably a good idea to check into it. The rest of America does not plan on supporting a million Californians on the dole.

I finally see the light - the fire actually illuminated something very clearly for me - this is the start of UBI (universal basic income) or IBI for everyone in America - this is what some have wanted for years. The government issues a permanent payment to everyone. In the meantime, housing is provided and food will come from the UBI checks. These destroyed areas of Los Angeles will be the first recipients.

@sablechicken unfortunately, sadly, you are 100% spot on. This is exactly the aim. We always have to ask ourselves, how does this action, event, etc., benefit the Global 1% ers. It's all part of the agenda. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this insanity. As you've figured out, It's to break us down and take away all that we've worked for, saved our pennies for; primarily, the highly coveted home ownership, which stands in the way of those who want to control us, confine us, and determine our value through the 'score' we will carry on us.

@DiscernmentNow it does sound blatantly unfair, ridiculous, and 'criminal', and dumb, but you simply don't live in a place without the ability to be reimbursed (at least partially) when you face unexpected catastrophic loss to your property.

@white_isnt_a_race2338 yes, I'm very much aware that there's been a mass exodus of insurance co. leaving the state for variety of reasons and that the heat has been on for many months now to strip Calif homeowners of their insurance leaving them in dire straits. It's god-awful situation, but it's forcing people to make tough decisions about what they're gonna have to do next.

@FaffyWaffles many companies, but not all. There's still the state-operated plan, California's Fair Plan, still there. Regardless of what insurance providers are still in Ca., homes need insurance. Things you own need protection. I'm not saying it's not a racket and riddled with problems, etc., but what's the alternative?
