It ticked just about every box that a good sequel should. The main criticism has always been no Arnie and a different setting. Many people didn't even bother seeing the movie because of these changes.

@MaaZeus "I still do not get what is awful in P2 compared to P1. P2 is great!" It's just about everything a good sequel should be. The hate for it is simply the people that expect a copy and paste of the first movie. No Arnie and no jungle setting automatically made it bad to a lot of people.

I was pissed that they kept throwing Robert Rodriguez's name out there in the marketing for the movie. I assumed he was directing it. The movie itself wasn't awful or anything, it was just bland and forgettable. When you wanna piggyback off a big franchise then you really need to bring something special to the table and Predators didn't do that.

They tried that with Godzilla 2014 and people did nothing but bitch and cry about how little screen-time he got. Today's audience wants wall to wall action and the monsters on full display throughout. Cinema like Jaws and Predator is sadly a lost artform.

@apina9731 "and he never was scary in the original" The vast majority of people disagree with you. It seems you came into the franchise way after the original when the predator had been over-exposed. Context here is important. When the original came out, you didn't see him in full until the end.

The brand has been damaged too much, just like the Terminator. There's no faith left in the fans with these series.
