John Wood dude, you are full of shit...I've had rooftop solar for over 10 years. Upgraded my old system that was too small to start with 2 years ago (ie, Michael Moore's old tech that he used in his movie ~ it was shit). Our power bills prior to the new installation used to run us about $3500 to $4k per year (home-based business included here). Currently, over a 12 month period, this system has produced a $120 credit with the local power company. From an investment return perspective (which is why I installed this f-ing system in the 1st place), I am currently sitting on a tax-free, risk-free, stable and guaranteed investment return of 15%...where the hell else can you achieve that??????????

@utah20gflyer76 yes the sun shows up every day...and even on the overcast days my solar panels still produce more than I consume more often than not. ...oops I suppose now you are going to say "but what about at night?". smh.

John Wood yes Michael Moore used old data and old technology when making this movie. ...don't know what his reasoning was, but it was crap. He has certainly dropped several rungs in my estimation of him, not that it was overly high to start with. ...2 choices really when comparing fossil fuels against renewables. We are talking about powering our world with old sunlight (fossil fuels) or new sunlight (renewables). It's that simple. This whole debate seems poorly framed, in large part I believe because of the huge vested interests in old sunlight (fossil fuels), who stand to lose vast sums of money and asset values should a full transition to new sunlight (renewables) eventuate. Hence my deep admiration for Elon Musk and how he is tackling this transitional challenge.

John Wood anyone reading these comments will quickly realise that my comments represent real life experience with rooftop solar and your comments represent hypothetical "pull 'em outta your ass" bullshit examples of why solar is no good. @balinlikestalin2310 you have read haven't you where the first automobiles sold were electric??? ...Or that it was only after crude oil was discovered that uses for it were thought of and hence did the ICE (internal combustion engine) come into being to consume all of this cheap energy?? As with ALL fossil fuels, all arguments For or Against them put aside, it is a matter of 'when' not 'if' fossil fuels run out. I for one like cheap energy and wish to stay in front of this rising fossil fuels cost curve by adopting renewable energy technology as it becomes affordable.
