  1. Never assume that high-end stuff was lousy in earlier decades. People found ingenious and advanced ways. What the software painted badly they would paint themselves. Many, many things are no longer as good as before, or are no better. A lot of people think the peak quality of cars, stereo equipment, photographs, space travel (not to mention movies, books and art, looks and personality) happened decades ago. There are many shocking instances of old technology still in service in demanding applications. Technology has been advancing at the pace of advancement in basic science and materials, which decelerated for a long time after the big gains came early. Recall the 2000-10 decade, which famously asked "Where are the flying cars?" The intelligent young tend to be aware of this. (As they also tend to be aware that it is on the verge of really catapulting upwards soon.)
