  4. KK, don't underestimate the role of hostile foreign governments flooding social media with billions of posts, and many billions of upvotes and downvotes. A single online worker making use of AI to spoof a native English speaker can easily post thousands of times a day via fake accounts. Up- and downvotes take a single click. Multiply all that by many thousands of very cheaply hired workers and you get fantastically high numbers. The documentary Operation Infektion (proper spelling) gives an idea of the shocking ease with which foreign governments can make Western openness a weakness rather than a strength. For them, social media is a huge lever marked "Pull Here to Divide and Fragment Western Societies."

Every parent and schoolteacher knows what I'm talking about: the child's naïve sense of justice which at times may sting the adult conscience for certain reasons, but must still be patiently reshaped into one that takes all the facts into account. On this view, the most vital question is why we have so many adolescents walking around in the adult world. Providing a full explanation must be among the top priorities.

[sigh] Anyway, gold-digging, although it's out there, not only isn't what I said, it isn't at all what had in mind either. What I had in mind is that some given woman could be a more or less unselfish and loving partner, but divorce arrangements as they stand simply often make it tempting to end it when dissatisfaction creeps in. That's not gold-digging, it's just normal human self-interest and not even reprehensible. Neither men nor women are made of stone. We're all flesh and blood and fallible. Learning takes time, and we'd all do better in our second through fifth centuries if only we lived to 500.😕 My strongest belief is that neither women nor men are the better sex, and I run screaming (so to speak) from anyone who disagrees much at all. They're sort of like nuclear waste, so I wish they could be safely stored underground for millions of years.😄 So long.😘

I thought 'objectify' as used by an intelligent person in the context of male attitudes towards females meant 'regard as an object' in the other sense, namely 'a goal which it is one's desire to attain.' It doesn't make any sense that a man would think a woman is a thing. I don't think any man I've ever met thinks that. The very idea is so far beyond stupid that believing it's what men have in mind is actually very stupid in itself, as well as insulting to men. Men may be frequently inconsiderate towards women, and at times disrespectful, but they absolutely see them as people. But don't get me wrong, I do notice unmistakably that 99% of people use 'object', 'objectify' etc. in this context to mean object as in 'thing, as opposed to human being.'

  50.  @jaspermartin7444  Whenever I hear 'object' used in this context, I always want to know if it's meant in the sense of "goal, meant to be attained (and valued on those terms)" or "thing, rather than a human being (and valued on those terms)." Which is it you have in mind, or is it some of both? What you said about ugly women reminded me of something. Jim Morrison, certainly not everybody's idea of a font of useful wisdom but admired by some for his various musings, had this to say in one of his songs: "Women seem wicked / When you're unwanted". Something for men and women both to stash away in the back of their minds, in my view. (Women of the usual sort should substitute 'men' for 'women', obviously.) Thanks for your interesting reply.
