Never mind Jacob Rees-Mogg. Here James Forsyth manages to decisively out-Young-Fogey all previous Young Fogeys except for maybe Evelyn Waugh. If not for anything politically or culturally definable then just for sheer nebulous Fogeyness. Well played, old man!

Yes, but never mind for a moment conservative opinions. It's also opinions which in fact were very much, unanimously, and quite rightly considered liberal 35 years ago that are under constant siege and attacked as right-wing. And never mind 35 years ago—20 years ago, ten years ago, five years ago. And let's be clear: Such opinions and values do indeed remain liberal to this day. The new left wing falsely characterizes them in line with their having abjured liberalism and embraced its shameful opposite: illiberalism.

@mikegray8776 Such behaviour is perhaps best expressed somewhat mathematically: Too Much Information, to the power of Too Much Information.

My answer is no. Left zealots have their shivs, chains and baseball bats out for a streetfight and conservatives are still bending over backwards to be totally polite and fair to them. Not wise when dealing with bullies. For a timely allusion one can hardly do better than Putin: respectful treatment has done nothing but encourage him. Message for centrists and conservatives: Don't just disagree with them. Let them know they're being counterattacked. (Gov. De Santis said something milder but still immensely useful: "Don't try to get these people to like you.")

Compare that with the hit-piece on Elon Musk from that odious and calculatedly bizarre-looking person starting at 24:30. Just a minute and a half, but it contains surely dozens of nasty words for something that has yet to even begin. A sort of would-be pre-cancelling that works best as a satire of itself.

Wishful thinking on your part, I'm afraid, if not something far worse. Russia itself expects its economy to shrink by a sixth this year. Next year will surely see a continuation, as everything that's causing problems now will only worsen. The point you make about its raw materials is only a case for its GDP not collapsing to zero, not for its economy being "very stable". Murray is right: basket case.

@guff9567 That is unquestionably the dumbest thing I have heard anyone say this year, and your competition has been stiff. My friendly advice is to tear down your mind to the foundations and rebuild it, this time with care. Best wishes!

Because they're Woke Lite-ists.

Propaganda can be dishonest; it can also be entirely honest. It's like commercial advertising, but done by institutions like governments. Like ads, it can be legitimate or not, even if it tends to be one-sided. Disinformation, on the other hand, is always dishonest. It's false information intended to mislead. So Schellenberger incorrectly blurs the vital distinction between them.

It's not anti-Western—except when it is, which is usually. A generation ago, by contrast, its enthusiasts were rarely if ever at odds with Westernness. I remember, for I was one myself and so was everyone in my circle.

You don't even know where to put an apostrophe and you think you can dismiss Murray? As a matter of fact antipathy towards people of other races is as old as humanity itself and ubiquitous since the beginning. It's Western culture that has made the first serious, sincere, large-scale and successful effort to do anything about it. This is why when people around the world emigrate, they emigrate to the West. You should do something about your own r-word: it's so strong in you that you give it vent in the only direction you're permitted to—against Europeans and Westerners. Twisted and sad, suitable for investigation for academic psychologists, but there you have it.

Well, you're just one down. That still leaves one billion to go. Bit of a solipsistic take on the life's work of a man, I should say.

Welcome to the Putin-bot anti-NATO comments pasture. (In short: NATO has a lot of nerve existing so close to Russia. It is a slap in Russia's face to not let it take over Eastern Europe again, a scandalous show of disrespect. If Putin wants to pick up Ukraine like a sack of beets, the Ukrainian state owes it to him to commit suicide.) Don't step in this stuff and certainly do not wear good shoes. Hitchens plays Prince Metternich here, trying to put the kibosh on Eastern European democracy and security in favour of the latest Russian Empire. Sonorous twit.

How did this metronome get to be an MP, let alone Foreign Secretary, let alone PM? Just listening to her drains my will to live. Diversity hires who wave their hands around ceaselessly in media appearances will be the death of each country which indulges in them. If Britain's Conservative's have gone that way (and they have), it's unclear where on earth a rescue is going to come from.

Not a Priti picture.

De Santis is "picking a fight with Disney"? What? Please take back that silly and slanted assertion, which is exactly what the PR people at Disney would have you say. Disney picked the fight. It is perhaps their right to do battle with the government, even though the point of contention has zero to do with their business, but do not portray them as the party who were attacked while they were minding their own business. We do not expect such careless talk from The Spectator.

Which is why I ran out of patience with this program: it's Woke Lite—wokeism dating from 2013, say. Most of the people appearing on it are mostly on the side of the illiberals. The closing segment, a pointlessly personal exploration of our host's phobia of spiders (tough to get more "Aren't my feelings and personal quirks just so interesting and important?" than that) even went so far as to demand that "we embrace animal diversity as well." These people just want the nonsense turned down from 11 to 9.
