Tbh, I'm really surprised four of them scored that high. (4) PhDs used to mean 10x more. Now they have a lot in common with unpaid internships that rich kids land.

In many departments the profs exploit them as cheap labor ahead of helping them develop. In many departments it proves little. Those are some things in common with unpaid (or lightly-paid) internships. Then there's the great increase in PhD programs and graduates and the number of schools which make them available.
