In countries like China, Russia and India, money goes much farther. This is why clothes from China, for example, are so cheap here. Shouldn't we face up to the notion that the same thing applies to military spending? I don't think China's navy has any $10,000 toilet seats. (Russia's might, though. Oligarchs gonna oligarch.) Seriously, their money goes way farther if they're spending it at home. So is China's military budget really $250bn? —A Bit Concerned

@davedixon2068 Ok ok, don't yell. I'd like to believe you, but where might I find the best corroboration of what you say? What about even in the higher-level blogs on the better sites? (I gave up being super-extremely fussy because it seems that if you are, nowadays, you just go without.) I'm open to learning something. Cheers mate

@davedixon2068 Anyway, I was mainly driving at a separate point: What if China's military budget really amounts to not $250bn, but (I don't know) $500bn to $1trn? Say there's not just a currency undervaluation but also a great deal of concealment of arms spending in China? You say it's done in the US. So why not in China, probably the world headquarters of concealment in every last sense of the word? More than half of China, including most of official China, hates the US and the West. Where there's a will to arm and to do so stealthily, there's a way, as you would seem to agree.
