  2. You're not thinking this through. Borders can be closed to tourists without being closed to merchandise. Personal protective equipment is good enough for health care workers, so it's good enough for shipping personnel. Anyway, a tiny amount of contagion from a handful of truck drivers, sailors, etc. at ports and points of entry can be accepted as a consequence of getting enough food to avoid starvation. Rational thought will endure in most of us even if it has already deserted some. Moreover, as time goes on there will be an army of people who have recovered from the illness and thus have acquired immunity. They can step back into their jobs.

The importation of additional cases cannot fail to quicken the spread of the illness and push hospitals closer to peak loads, past which severely ill people must be triaged out of intensive care and thus written off. The man interviewed here is not thinking straight because of his hatred for the president, which you could see from space.

And banning visitors is fully practicable whereas banning staff is of course an absurdity in a care home. "On fait ce que l'on peut" as the French say. (One does what one can.) Maybe masked and gloved staff won't give the virus to anyone. Probably they will, but maybe not. Anyway, the slower the spread the better hospitals can cope, keeping the death rate down. Cheers.

If you say to a woman 'If I asked you to marry me what would you say?'' and she says 'yes, let's do it', and you then say 'but I wasn't really asking, I was just curious', you're being silly and unfair. Some important questions just can't be asked 'in theory'. Or how about 'I'm not really asking, but if I would go along with a divorce, would you want one?' If she says yes then the marriage is effectively over. It doesn't matter that you 'weren't actually asking'. 2016 Question: De jure non-binding, de facto binding. Sorry again for mixing you up with someone else.

  28. Europe was not originally thought of as a continent in the same way we think of continents today. Britain seemed a large enough island to be not a part of Europe, in a way that Sicily didn't. And we didn't always know about plate tectonics. You complain about a mere manner of speaking rather than something that deserves to be taken seriously.

But I really would now in all seriousness encourage you acknowledge women's responsibility for the choice most of them stand up so fiercely for. To say a woman entering an abortion clinic has no responsibility for her free choice isin my view to deny her full humanity. It infantilizes women, or at least makes little girls of them. Without responsibility there can be few if any legitimate rights. If responsibility for abortion is completely in the hands of men, then truly it's a man's world and women are merely our guests in it, or even our property, as under Islam. As you say you're all about strengthening democracy, we're in agreement that far anyway.   I like co-operation between neighbours, too, but when it amounts to your neighbours having veto rights on how you run your own house, scaling down the co-operation becomes appropriate. We probably agree on this principle, too. And I like a lot of government, laws, and regulation myself but there can be such a thing as too much government, too many laws, and too much regulation. When that occurs, they should be reduced. We probably agree on that too. I think we just disagree on whether the EU came to be an intrusive burden on the UK. So cheers. Sorry for the long reply.
