  25. I can see you're unaware of the proliferation of graduate diploma mills. And I don't mean illegitimate non-schools, I mean well-known institutions cranking out PhDs that aren't really worth the paper they're printed on. Requirements have diminished, standards have been lowered, research has descended into decrepitude, journals debased, entire faculties hollowed out. Professors get candidates to obediently and sycophantically do their work for them; in return the students get a phony degree. In a way I feel sorry for those who really earn their doctorates.

They don't amount to absolute proof, but in science there's no such thing anyway. Scientific truth is a matter of opinion, and not everyone's opinion is equal. Authorities deserve their say as much as unknown schmucks, anyway.
