This woman is nearly as interesting as Graves himself. She performs her job exquisitely in an object lesson suitable for any interviewer. You get the impression of brilliance but she doesn't stoop to showing it off. Clever, wise, and poised to a degree shocking for her age, and authentic enough to throw some authenticity away by cultivating a very artificial appearance. All in all seemingly a whole person, again nearly as much as Graves, and that's saying a lot. What an unexpected pleasure. The present day almost can't produce a person like her.

It bothers me too, and I'm not looking forward to it. I think it's people in their thirties and forties who do it most.

@Dickie Chaznick Setting Mrs. Mosley's merits and demerits aside for the moment, if I may, I dispute that good diction is a frippery. Perhaps you don't know that diction is how you speak entirely, including choice of words, and so is not limited to vowel formation and pronunciation, which might be what you mean. What comes out when you open your mouth frippery? I can't believe you mean that. As to her demerits, she might have had endless amounts in spades for all I know, but she doesn't seem to be a holocaust denier in this interview. If she meant to deny it here, she failed spectacularly, for she acknowledged it.

@Dickie Chaznick Thanks for your reply. Firstly, suppose someone said: "Dickie Chaznick an idiot? I don't see how anyone could possible claim it!" Nothing wrong with that, not as to form nor meaning. On to the next matter. Regarding her comments on the German atrocities, I take your point, as what I found an acknowledgement was, I agree, not a thoroughgoing one. But I don't agree completely, as it was easily close enough to one to flop as a denial. You surely know more about her than I do, and I admit I mostly forget what was in The Rules of the Games, written by her son Nicholas. Certainly, if elsewhere she denied the Holocaust, then I deplore her very memory. Other deniers might on that account visit her grave to leave flowers; let others still drop by whilst walking their dogs, if you get my meaning. My point is merely that her remarks her seemed an acknowledgement, and did not constitute a denial. Again, you might know more about it. All the best, Dickie. P.S. @hArtyTruffle We know the names of very few TV presenters from 54 years ago, don't we? Anyway, she was Sandra Harris, co-host of "Today" on Thames TV. (Or rather, is, for I gather she is still with us.)

@Dickie Chaznick All very interesting and made all the more vivid by your relating the personal tangent. Might you have noticed her about now and then, or spoken to her? Unlikely, if she was anything like Nancy, whom one can only imagine seeing through a telescope.. It's her sister who interests me most, though. Love in a Cold Climate, The Blessing, and Madame de Pompadour are old favourites. Quite a wrecking crew (the five of them, wasn't it?) with good points and bad ones, perhaps both in quantity. Having many detractors is ordinarily a bad sign, but by no means always! Thanks for your reply.

@stephaniebarron52 Stupid men, at times yes. At other times, men who simply don't exist except in crude stereotypes. Kind of like the colonial who assumes implausibly every last cliched characteristic of the people of the mother country (e.g. the New Zealander of lore, tedious or charming according to one's taste, who's "more English than the English"). This is frequently the characteristic also of drag queens who, being not to the manner born, make some people cringe. Others, of course, really like that sort of thing.
