Russians: "They all want to take our resources. That's why they're hostile towards us." Alexandria Ocasio Cortez: "Republicans all want to date me. That's why they're hostile towards me." Neurosis.
6
In the same spirit: Vladimir Putin commenting on Karelia, 2001: "Changing borders is not the best way to resolve problems." Ukraine, 2023: "You changed, bro. You changed."
6
By any chance were these interviews conducted after news spread that Navalny was killed for criticizing Putin?🤨 There is a witty saying in French about the usefulness of sending a message via harsh punishments: Pour encourager les autres. [To encourage the others.]
6
Putin basically just put in an order for tank commanders, for delivery in 2040.
6
I agree. But please don't say big balls. Just say guts ffs.
6
No it wasn't. It was a weak attempt at derision, and buying roses for someone you love is nothing to deride. If he had found the man's views congenial to his own, he would've said "Cool, roses."
6
@pawelstuglik4737 Agreed! Changing your opinion (1) is saying "Bacon is terrible." and then saying "Bacon is good after all." Lying (2) is saying "I've never tried yogurt" when the truth is, as you admit later, "I've been eating yogurt since I was 4." Putin: (2)
6
👍Classic psychological projection.
6
3 Russians, confidently: "Together Russia and China can rule the world." CCP official: "China will rule. Russia is young, unpopulated, unstable, undependable." 2nd CCP: "The important thing is that Russia and the West stay apart. Nothing else." 3rd CCP: "Panda uses Russia's help to take over world: Russia becomes panda cub."
6
@kbityy Yes, Denmark certainly seems very committed to the spirit of democracy and freedom. The government was not overly bossy during Covid. When their prime minister Mette Frederiksen announced the end of restrictions ahead of almost all other countries, her simple eloquence in saying "We welcome the life we knew before" provoked a surge of admiration in me for her and definitely caught at my throat. It was instantly enough for me to regard her as one of the best politicians in Europe.
6
Very conceivable, actually. In fact inevitable when (1) the media is either owned or totally intimidated by the state, at the same time as (2) organized political opposition is next to nil because of direct state repression and state intimidation.

@chrondavis1579 Entering into relationships with nasty countries is only one way to not be targeted by them. And it's hardly a reliable one either. (Just think back 82 years.) A finer way by far is developing ones with good countries. The latter type make better partners for trade and investment, too. But it appears that Putin and his cadre just feel more at ease in the company of nastiness. Unsurprising perhaps, since the country was taken over very early on by Genghis Khan, whom it never ejected. Ruled by the Mongols for a quarter of a millennium, they drank deep of the Mongol ethos, and it suffused a large portion of both the aristocracy and populace. It didn't have to work out that way. It appears it did. But you know all this.
6
"How do you sum up Russians?" I asked a Russian-speaking Ukrainian emigrant whom I used to know. "Born to be ruled" he said coldly.
6
It isn't very smart to debate hostile people. Don't reveal your position by demanding that anyone defend mobilization (which you did of that one woman). They will never change their minds and you will get arrested or assaulted. Just make them answer general questions and let them hear their own voices and how silly their answers are. Let them inwardly question and rebuke themselves afterwards. That is the only realistic hope. Don't get your channel shut down.
6
@JS-ip8xm His soul is a nanometre in diameter, but when Putin stands on fifty million such souls, at last he is six feet tall.
6
It's not rebellious to conform to fashion trends. You didn't know that?
6
Lovely red and white hearts.👍
6
Vladimir Solovyov and his TV co-hosts have really gotten their work done, I see.😂 Despite the USSR being long gone, our interviewees here show the lasting value of Orwell's description of its typical commissar: "half gangster, half gramophone."
6
That sounds to me like Love Thine Enemy. Sorry, but of all the precepts of Christianity that one was always the most ludicrous. Even the absurd "virgin birth" is easier to accept😄. And pray tell, why do you let the interview subjects' hate pass without comment and then scold us for objecting to it?
6
The one part you got right is that Africans and Russians are brothers. Exactly the same in politics and character.😄
6
The problem is undue belief in an authority which is either innocently but profoundly mistaken, or intent on misleading people, or both. But let's face it, such undue belief is likely never completely absent, nor on the other hand totally pervasive. In a given person it's higher than zero, less than 100%. And what we call being brainwashed is some murky level, past a hard-to-define tipping point, at which a person stops trying to get at the truth.
6
Canada, US, Australia, NZ: all four former British colonies, all four chose an insignificant or at least 3rd-tier town as their capital. Questionable judgment if you ask me.

He also said that the best way to deal with temptation is to give into it. So he had it all figured out, didn't he? Except that he died deep in debt, of a wasting disease, in a cheap hotel in Paris. (Last words: "Either this wallpaper goes or I go.")
5
@blattsee6095 I think he's saying they're born to be ruled and it's costing them.
5
For pure hilarity it's hard to beat the guy indicating that, sure, he'd go fight in the war, but he can't talk because his mouth is full of cake. 🤣🤣 You couldn't write it better.
5
Perhaps the best part was when she said other ethnic groups in the east and south "came to our country."😂 No, old girl, Russia came to their countries. That's how it grew from tiny Muscovy to its current size.
5
Does anyone else remember the scene in Scarface when he's in a restaurant and lets loose a long harangue about how he's the best guy and everyone else is a bunch of hypocrites and liars? He's all grievance and hurt, the victim of prejudice and envy. No one understands him, everyone judges him unfairly. It's the timeless psychological mark of the gangster/bully, I guess. Russia seems like if Scarface had a country.
5
I guess. But give him time. It's probably on his bucket list. 🤮🤮
5
I love the woman who called Belarus a "dictmocracy." Are you sure she didn't say "dickmocracy"?😅
5
Reminds me of: "Under capitalism, the inevitable result is the exploitation of man by his fellow man! Under communism, the opposite is true!"
5
They have a great phrase for it in England, that our political system is about being able to "throw the bums out." I know, it sounds American.
5
@reirmor7718 So Ukraine should not do battle in its own country. Right, Pooty-bot.
5
I can't remember a 1420 video that was less interesting.🤨 Yet it's the longest.🤔 Using up old footage while you're gone on vacation, I suppose? If so, have a nice summer. 😀
5
@wheelmanstan That's a highly suitable list. Edit: But I think there was already some attention paid to the question of Finland+Sweden+NATO. I would go to the search function on the channel page. Mind you it wouldn't be very current anymore.
5
In half or most International Relations faculties around the world the 2nd language is English. Nothing special about that. Anyway, it seems fair to speculate that the use of English outside English-speaking countries has doubled once or twice in the past 20 years, and that Russia is no exception.
5
Russians say over and over and over that everybody covets their massive land area. So for a good laugh watch the 2-min. classic SCTV clip "What Fits Into Mother Russia" from the early '80s.
5
Daniil is an insanely good student of English. Only 22, and hasn't lived in an English-speaking country. I don't understand it.
5
Himars cooks Orcs Funny, except that 'duo' just means 'a pair of people or things.' 'Couple' has additional meanings.
5
Himars cooks Orcs Hmm? Why would a lifelong English speaker translate from English to English? How would I even accomplish such a feat? Your hypothesis tickles the brain. ('Duo', btw, just referred to those two lads who appeared to be good buddies from school or whatever.) Cheers, mate
5
It is 1/9 of the land. 6.6m square miles out of 57.3m on Earth = 11%, not 17%.
5
@pt1chy Btw, I have an old map from 3 years after the Alaska Purchase, on which it is labelled "Russian America". But then in small type below it says "To Americans, "Alaska"." Charming feature.
5
@johnbox271 Please tell me what tf living in Russia has to do with my views on courage and submission, on risk and safety.
5
I don't agree with any of you referring to China. I think he's comparing today to censorship in Soviet times.
5
Tip: If the channel is worryingly quiet for a while, check the Community tab on the channel page for minor posts from Daniil.
5
@daark1799 Ah, so it was right of Germans to rally around their strong leader when difficult times came in 1943?
5
Wow, so many of them look a lot older than they are.
5
(1) Daniil I have to say I think it's cool how you're 22 going on 52. If you wish to or need to stop trying to improve Russia, you can do the same for any other country. (2) The OSCE is one boss organization for that public declaration of theirs on Russia. It said it all. (3) I love the Russian expression "Fuck knows?" Too hilarious. I'm stealing it. (4) 1420: Least boring, least unintelligent channel on YouTube as far as I am aware.👍 My advice to other channels: Start paying close attention and learn.
5
Under a ruler, it seems to me, you have so much less dignity. You're a child, living under your strict dad. He beats the family, then he brags how great the household runs. You're a child forever.
5
"Many villages are currently empty, with only grandparents residing in them." A village is not empty if people live there. But that's just my opinion, resulting from my belief that grandparents are human beings.
5
Because the Russians I know are very smart, I thought Russians were smart generally. Not anymore. I'm particularly disappointed in the middle-aged and older women. They remind me of the Parisian women during the revolution whom I read about, who would bring their knitting to the guillotines early in the morning and watch the executions all day long.
