You make some good points (and I commend you heartily for correct and apt use of the word admittance.😄) But mark my words, when Trump desires to enter Canada, he will — with the full, prompt and unconditional approval of the Canadian govt. He will attend the G7 leaders' summit in Canada next June, you may depend upon it; and if he wants to visit as president-elect, he will do that too. One must always maintain one's sense of realism. As for the threatened tariffs, I consider it very unlikely that they will be imposed, but not because they are ridiculous and unreasonable. Rather, I expect the threat will be withdrawn when Trudeau makes concessions on tightening the border from our side, as, in the circumstances, he certainly ought to. (We shall see if he obtains any reciprocal concessions, as he likewise ought to.)

@lylealexander4861 My family have been Quebecers since 1631. TROO-doh has indeed been common in English Canada for nearly 60 years, chiefly because it's an anglicization. In Quebec it is not used, nor does the PM himself use it. In English, the stress is more often on the first syllable of words than in French. (For two-syllable words it's 80%.) If you put an unfamiliar word or name in front of anglophones and ask them to pronounce it, they will stress the first syllable much more often than not. In French it's the other way around. As for Canadian newscasts, I've watched as many as about 98% of people. Much less often since around 2010, as I began to find them highly unsatisfactory. (And btw, more reporters pronounce words and names poorly than formerly, although they still tend to be good at it.)

@digbycrankshaft7572 Yes, Canada is definitely a monarchy (constitutional sub-type). That's not my opinion, but a fact. Thus Charles III is the King of Canada and its head of state (likewise Australia); yet Canada also is a liberal democracy. Even if seemingly contradictory, these are facts nonetheless. Having said all that, I take your interlocutor for a foreign govt. worker intent specifically on sowing division and eliciting n asty written reactions, which you unfortunately provided. (I maintain that of all 42 million people in Canada, those who would actually say what he said could be gathered into a single room of moderate size.) Try not to fall for such provocations.

A thread full of people eager to cut off their country's own nose to spite Trump's face. It would be laughable if it weren't so rich in pathos. All of them as haughty as emperors, none with any responsibility, none capable of thought. Even PM Peter Pan himself, who answers quite well to each element of these descriptions except that he has great responsibilities, has more sense. He'll go along, and ought to.

@chrisgraham2904 Really, you think the leaders of the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Japan will protest Trump's presence? Wow, that's a mind-blowing belief. Concerning stolen cars being shipped out of Canada, I guess you weren't aware how uncommon it is around the world, and always has been, for cargo leaving a country to be inspected by national authorities. Export controls have never been much of a thing.
