In a way she, too, was on the make. She was thrilled at the prospect of a bargain transaction and set her intelligence aside to accommodate its fruition. Just like the Swiss man who handed over a great pile of money on the basis of some phone conversations. I feel quite sorry for them both, but let's face it, one could as easily laugh at them. The duping of fools by swine is a classic comic motif. Tragicomic, should we say?

He's an ideal spokesman for Russian dissent.

Yes, it was unseemly and undiplomatic to employ slang in that manner. He should have simply called Putin a psycho.
5
The claim that the evacuated Americans will not be quarantined is false. Check other sources.
5
He simply has a well-balanced and well-educated imagination and intellect. These things were once far more common.

What? The population of Ukraine is mentioned all the time.

@terencehennegan1439 Thanks for your reply. Your idea about birth trauma is interesting, and reminded me that a correlation has been found between birth complications and schizophrenia. Its onset occurs a couple of decades later.

This is a false report. Sky should edit or remove it.

Brilliant. Now go collect your 5 kopeks, Sacha.

The mushy left are illiberal.

What was that they signed, a Chrismas card?

It's seven years later. How's her health holding up?

@sko1beer Cheeky devil

I will never get used to seeing the way British reporters rudely push government ministers around in interviews. Do the public really tolerate this? Do they in fact demand it?

The NATO countries should sell nukes to Taiwan as soon as possible. But US fighter jets are a good start.

Hear, hear.

Hmm. That could mean two things. 🤔

@milanmali9013 I would add: "Go now! Bloody get on with it!" Which, in my own way, is also support.

@tonyroy8123 No, O'Reilly.

Dear Sky: "black sea" gets initial capitals.

I wil contact my local legislator. Best wishes.

Earlier today they were given a prolonged standing ovation by members of the Bundestag. (They were gathered to hear Chancellor Scholz, whose address on the war I found stirring.)

@Winter-CIG It is odd to defend the right to irresponsible stupidity. I wish I had something at the ready to satirize it, along the lines of Orwell's "My mother, drunk or sober" as a lampoon of "My country, right or wrong." Let's have both press freedom and press good sense.

What a reach. When the Troubles began in the 60s China was busy putting millions of its people to death.

Yes, and it's one man's shame.

Many Communist Party of China supporters here in the comments are harshly critical and skeptical of human rights and free speech in the UK and elsewhere in the West. I find this galling. They pretend to be unaware that criticism of such a trenchant nature is protected speech here in the West, but not at home in China. Let's see China institute freedom of expression, multi-party democracy, freedom of assembly, and other basic rights---then I can listen to a lecture on Northern Ireland. During the early years of the Troubles in the late 60s, the current government of China was busy putting millions of Chinese people to death. In fact, here, from Wikipedia, is a slogan from the Red Guard at the time: "Those who are against Chairman Mao will have their dog skulls smashed into pieces".

This is no doubt at times true. But as I understand it, dispatch told them they were facing an armed suspect; they had already found a woman lying in a pool of blood. My point is not to exonerate the officer here, since for all I know he did not follow his training, but it's important to think carefully before speaking. (Past a certain point, an attempt to reduce risk to innocent bystanders ceases to pay off and raises the risk that a perpetrator will him- or herself maim or kill somebody. Any officer can lower the risk of harming an innocent person to zero simply by never releasing their safety. That's not helpful to the public over a large number of incidents.)

@dominantallele4216 Sez the r ay cyst himself. Classic technique: do something awful, accuse your accusers of it.

@stupidtreehugger Secret? It's not a secret in any sense whatsoever. It is a basic fact taught in the opening days of the finance section of any course in economics. What blatant category inflation. That aside, perhaps more debate would be useful. Don't be so sure, though. Since the Great Dumbening took firm hold, public debate has grown more and more dangerous and increasingly threatens to bugger things up badly at least as much as it offers a hope of improving them. It gets harder all the time to exclude the legions of idiots who demand more of a place at the table of serious debate. I for one have come to expect, ordinarily, that any reform will make things worse overall. R.I.P. The Age of Improvement. Born c.1750, died c.2010, after a long illness.

She'll immediately go running to China for financial support. Belt and Road meets Aberdeen. They'll be dredging firths to accommodate the People's ships, submarines and aircraft carriers. I'm pretty sure.

He does have a wife with equal say in the matter. Perhaps they haven't decided yet.

Vladimir Putin: psycho. Oh, to be his cook.
1
Entirely wrong. The ideal response would be the one that's ideal at the moment, and that is indeed one the prime minister would craft along with other NATO leaders. He and they must have a free hand. There can be no pre-committing ourselves to war measures except in direct self-defence. Thus for now the only sensible warning to Putin is a total commitment to NATO Article 5.

And Tiananmen Square belongs to China, too. So what? Did that justify a massacre like the coming one in Hong Kong?

@digitalT83 Methinks the lady doth project too much.

They're insufferable. Pre-emptively give them the boot now.

Ukraine would do well to research Afghan resistance strategies and tactics and to implement the best ones, or even recruit some Afghan advisors. Edit: I bet they are doing this already.
