  1.  @dekippiesip  It wasn't the age of colonialism. It was the age of advances in sea navigation and shipbuilding. It was something new only in that it was conquest done at a geographic remove, instead of to neighbors.

  3. It's better to stick with saying 'Tatar' than 'Tartar.' (I notice in your graphics you use Tatar 👍.) Ukrainians themselves, including Crimeans, would say 'Tatar.' 'Tartary', on the other hand, is a region stretching from the Pacific only as far west as the Caspian (i.e. not as far as Ukraine). The peoples are certainly closely related but there's still a distinction.
