  1. Concerning your model battlefield, 5 square km isn't 3 square miles, it's 2 square miles.   So I think you mean 5 km square, which is 25 square km; equating to 3 miles square or 9 square miles. In other words, a 5x bigger piece of land. That's how it strikes me, since I bet you had the 1.6x conversion ratio correct, but I could be wrong.
