A point of historical disagreement: Canada in 1939 wasn't a colony. It was a country with full membership in the League of Nations. And it declared war on Germany a week after Britain and France did. Indeed, after Dunkirk the UK had exactly one battle-ready division on its soil --- and it was Canadian. We were with Britain from the start, invaded one of the Normandy beaches on our own, and we were with them till the end. So it is wrong to say that "Britain stood alone" against Germany.
