@yourstruly4817 It stands for common era or christian era. CE is a far more inclusive term. I hope this helps clear up your confusion and ignorance.

@yourstruly4817 Who said it was offensive? It seems like you are looking for reasons to be upset. I work with Nepalis, in their calendar it is 2076. Why should a christian date be imposed on them, or the chinese or other much older cultures. I have no idea what sharing western technology has to do with changing how people across the globe list years. AD is a Latin phrase, do many western nations use Latin? It is also based on the alleged birth year of a middle eastern prophet, which most scholars think is 6-3 years too late. Why is this western?

@yourstruly4817 No one is disputing that. All that has happened is to acknowledge there are large numbers of cultures with much older calendars and historical records than christians. So use of CE shows a common time frame. Jesus was not my lord, I didn't vote for him.

@jewelscash8752 But why should christianity have to dominate every other religion and culture in the world? CE doesn't stop you being a christian, it just acknowledges other cultures.

@ivvan497 Many cultures do have their own calendars. It is 2076 in Nepal, 2563 in Buddhist, 5779 in Hinduism.

@ivvan497 What don't you understand? The different cultures and religions DO use them. However the world needs a common point of reference, so to use CE to say either Common Era or Christian Era allows for a global calendar for countries to plan and work together. It shows one religion should not dominate others.

@brucetucker4847 it was a Monty Python and the Holy Grail reference

@brucetucker4847 sorry been a long day. Your reference was more subtle.

@5698-e2d The roughly 196 countries in the world need a collective way of agreeing current dates. This is a fact. They are used for business, transport schedules coordinating sporting events etc. So Common Era is a convenient way for all to agree. People know it refers to AD. However this is an inclusive term. If you want to be so protectionist of baby jesus' birth, then perhaps get the current year amended by 3-6 years earlier which is when most biblical scholars agree he was born. As for not acknowledging other cultures and beliefs, why not? Christians are a minority on the earth and have to live alongside everyone else. Jesus said love that neighbour didn't he?

@5698-e2d There are roughly 6.9 billion people on the earth. As you day Christians make up 31%. So 69% are not. If the thought of slight compromise over 2 letters offends you so much you must get really offended by multi culturism. Almost 70% of the global population should not be forced to live by your standards.

@5698-e2d Can you please provide a source for your 7.7 billion claim? I am not going to go down the rabbit hole of multi-culturism and racism. But it must be very frightening for you in modern society. I suggest you complain to Time Ghost if you are truly offended by 2 letters CE on the video. They were the ones who used them and have defended them in comments above. Hope you have a great 2020 CE

@vulovulo6401 They can both (CE & AD) be used.
