So many parallels to Russia, despite the cultures being completely different. Though I believe there are some elements of so called “hostage justice” in the US as well there is a reason people have to accept those “plea deals” cause they could been kept in pre-trial detention for years(speedy trial my arse) . Yeah often if you have a good lawyer you can negotiate for a bail though in many cases they ask for a crazy amount of money that your family just couldn’t get anywhere. But if you have a good layer you can still enforce your rights and make the prosecution pay for their mistakes. That’s the difference with Russia.
