  2.  @LisaJoB2024  That's the thing, it's not just Fox. Fox are the most blatant about it, but various outlets (even NYT and CNN) translate meandering Trump nonsense in coherent points. That makes it seem as though Trump made sense during a rally, while that was not the case.

  5. I read an artcile by Gilad Edelman in The Atlantic that had me waver on Lichtman. It's just one article, sure, but it makes good points regarding the strengths and weaknesses of Lichtman's system. Especially the objectivity claim Lichtman makes about his Keys is nowhere near as robust as he makes it seem. I'm with you, though... Lichtman's prediction is the only thing I can hold on to as a Dutch person who cannot vote in your country.

  14. Trump truly is a baffling person. Still... Europe is not on a great trajectory either with AfD in Germany, FPÖ in Austria, PVV in The Netherlands and Le Pen in France. All of them are gaining steam. Meanwhile, Orban is wreaking havoc every chance he gets and genuflecting at the altar of Putin.

I actually believe Trump meant to say the thing he later clarified. *However*, in light of his recent comments about "the enemy within" and the overall heated context in which we live, Trump can still be reasonably accused of using incendiary rhetoric and making a threat on Cheney's life. A Trump supporter can hear those words and think "Okay, that's my cue". I wouldn't even put it past Trump to intentionally make vague statements with a clear violent core, just to get people riled up. There is a danger in having a man speak so vaguely that his words need to be clarified post hoc over and over again. As you also point out, if the shoe was on the other foot, a Democrat would not be (and should not be) getting away with it either. The words sounded entirely different and they can incite violence.

  22. I might actually go into a brief political hibernation until Election Day. Polls are trending poorly, experts are just repeating things, and pretty much all predictors say it's 50/50. We can only wait and see now (as non-US citizens) or vote (as US citizens).
