  2. It's exactly in comparing "Moo Moo" to "He said, she said" that you can see a difference in approaches. Moo Moo was more subtle, genuine and based in the story than He said She said. In Moo Moo, the offending officer even gets to tell his side of the story. The reasons he offered are commonly offered justifications. As Lorist points out, they went a little overboard in painting with a broad brush in the He said She said episode. As an example, while they could've given that Beefer dude genuine motivations, he just turned out to be the pig you thought him to be. And as a final point, a slight reckoning within the show of how characters have spoken of Terry and his physique would've been smart as well. When you address serious topics like that, you have to be careful and avoid being caricaturesque in your depiction of the issue. You end up preaching to the choir, otherwise, which is ineffective. I think Moo Moo didn't do so and He said She said did a little.

  4. Goes to show that there's more to being attractive than just being attractive "on paper/in theory". Not to say that Michelle Wolf is ugly, not at all. Just that she's not what you'd call a classic beauty. The way one carries him/herself is very important and it can elevate as well as detract from someone's attractiveness. Yes, I feel weird having spent time elaborating on this. Somehow felt compelled to do it.

  6.  @allensupcycle1958  Anyone can be racist. The impact and scale of the racism tends to differ, though. I can go to a country with few white people and be racist while being a minority, people will probably just shrug it off or even get back at me for it. The people of my race support me in my racism, however, the more oppresive my (and the collective) racism gets. But the degree is in how oppressive/impactful the racism is, not whether or not you're being racist.

  13. Nah, dude. You're making claims, but when pressed you just opt out of a further elaboration by making ad hominems and considering your interlocutor a lost cause for no real reason. Much a bout Trump and his party is simply vile, dishonest, inconsistent and quite simply dangerous for the USA. What I can concede about Meyers (and Colbert and Noah) is that they have a tendency to just say "you look dumb/weird/ugly" or "you said a word wrong by accident! LOL" and consider that a point well made. As what happens here, Meyers point was "he used a meme, therefore his point is invalid or not worthy of listening to". Another instance comes shortly after, as Seth describes Trump's team as looking similar in appearance to gangsters. It's irrelevant and dishonest. That's a downside of their mix of political satire and attempts to tell a joke.

  14. I suppose what I did was exactly more than that, though. But yes, because she's a woman I actually evaluated (in that post) something I wouldn't when I would be watching a man, as I was evaluating attractiveness and I'm not attracted to men. I, personally, already evaluated Seth's qualities as a presenter and show host. Surely I made a post about that at some point in time as well. Same for Michelle regarding her abilities as comedienne etc. It just didn't happen in this particular instance, but it doesn't mean it didn't happen at all.

  15. +Emily Schueller Myeah, but it's still different. For Cumberbatch I'd think "What makes him attractive to people who are attracted to men" and can't use myself as a point of reference. Although I admit I worded it too strongly earlier on. I can, when someone starts talking about it, think about what makes a person attractive. For women I'm more likely to answer "attractive to me" and for men "attractive in general". Still, when someone remarks a particular woman is attractive and I don't find her attractive at all... I guess it was a bit of a shorthand and the distinction doesn't lie with man or woman.

  22. Just a small note: Zwarte Piet/Black Pete and Sinterklaas are not tied to Christmas. And myeah, the whole big earrings, red lips, afro-textured hair in combination with the skin colour rightfully raises some alarms. The fact that Zwarte Piet has those features show that the whole "He's black because he goes down the chimney" is an ad-hoc justification. Moves are being made, however, to actually make Zwarte Piet look like a person who went down the chimney (the explanation some commenters here so staunchly defend.) i.e. no red lips, earrings, afro hair and completely dark (rather patches of dark) skin
