@montecarlo4294 I live in Chicago and can confirm you're right. This is nothing but an excuse to stay at home and collect a free paycheck. Keep your eyes on the Facebook pages of those Chicago teachers, at least one of them will be dumb enough to post photos of themselves next week sitting on a beach in Aruba.

Where can I sign up to be a Chicago teacher? $60K a year starting pay, summers off, and collecting a free paycheck while everybody else (like minimum wage retail and restaurant workers) have to get up and go to work each day to make their living. And then you people have the nerve to strike two weeks after schools open. Oh but I can't criticize you...that would be systemically "rathist" right? Enjoy your vacation in Disney World.

@anisa8835 that would be more money than what I am currently making. If you don't want to teach, I will. Submit your resignation, give me a phone number to call or send me a link to an application and I'll teach out the 2022 year for you. How's that? $60K a year -- whether it's spread out over 10 months or 12 months -- is still $60K a year. You're getting paid $60K a year for ten months of actual work, regardless of the frequency of your paychecks. This is such an asinine excuse that I hear you Chicago Unioners using all the time. That would be like me arguing with my employer to pay me every week instead of every two weeks.

@anisa8835 It’s a lot of outside time that is required that we don’t get paid for. ...same as the rest of us who have to wake up every morning, spend time getting ready, spending hours commuting each day. We don't get paid for that sh*t either. There’s no bonuses for teaching. ...LOL, Jesus you people get paid $60K a year just to start! Like most union members you pay next to NOTHING for your health insurance - what are you complaining about?! If you don't like it then go find another job! I've never had a job either that offered any type of "bonus", other than a $10 Starbucks gift card! And nobody is going to Disney World during remote learning because we are still teaching… which is harder than teaching in person. ...if it's harder than teaching in person, then simple: go teach in PERSON!

I'm WHITE. The Chicago Teachers' Union is affirmative action. That means preference is given to candidates of color and whites go to the back of the line ("you white people have your white privilege, why should we hire you? You're all just a bunch of systemic rathists in a systemically rathist society, systemically speaking.") Oh and I'm also not best friends with some Alderman - that's not gonna help my cause either. But if I was offered that type of salary to go teach then I would go teach.

Public schools are not "child care". You pay property taxes, you're entitled to have your children get educated. Bottom line is these teachers just want to collect a free paycheck and not work.
