Ever hear of something called a "mortgage"? Which (seeing as this was Florida and properties there are so overvalued) was probably costing him two-thirds of his meager salary...and doubtful his wife worked at that time otherwise she would not have volunteered to take the fall for him, otherwise her job would've been at risk as well. Wonder what he's doing for work now since getting fired from any type of federal job can really screw your chances big time.

Actually if you listen closely she tried to take the blame herself because she knew -- they both knew -- if her husband was found to be the guilty party he would lose his job.

Dude if you listen closely you can see his wife trying to lie and take the blame. They knew he was in big trouble once that thing started dinging, and they both knew he would likely lose his job if he was found to be the one who stole it.

Eloise Bean there's a reason why countries like Saudi Arabia don't have crime, or even petty theft.

@createdbeing302 LOL, looks like this "Mr Martinez" deleted his comment because he realized how dumb he sounded

EliteWarrior you are obviously an idiot; they staked out his house until he came outside. Duhhhhh

LOL are you nuts? The news crew had already traced the signal - destroying the iPad and killing the signal would have only aroused further suspicion.

Sadik Meah I think you're playing devil's advocate too much here. I'm not a lawyer but there seemed to be enough witnesses to the tracking signal. Criminals don't tend to destroy valuables that they steal. A better solution would have been for him to never have stolen the iPad in the first place.

Sadik Meah I understand what you mean about this guy not incriminating himself (I'm familiar with the Fourth Amendment which governs warrantless searches of people and property, and also the Fifth Amendment which allows people to refuse to answer questions without an attorney present) but you're thinking in terms of legal liability, whereas the real issue (and the only issue I think he cared about) was his job being in jeopardy once his employer found out what was doing on, not to mention the damage to his personal reputation. I think this guy would've been happy if the only consequence from this was to be sued in small claims court for the value of the iPad rather than have his misdeeds broadcast on national TV to 30 million people including his employer. Hypothetically, if the guy had destroyed the iPad it still would not have mattered. They had him on video committing the theft and there were ample witnesses to the tracer signal. I also think that Apple could have provided the whereabouts of the phone's last-known location before the signal was lost. All of this would have been more than enough to get the axe from his superiors (I myself have been fired from one or two jobs for FAR less severe offenses -- and less evidence of any wrongdoing on my part).

4:43 gee what a shocker, Florida is the state with the most reported TSA thefts

Jose Mercedes are you kidding? $16 an hour is CRAPPY pay in Massachusetts

@createdbeing302 my previous comment was on an unrelated subject (the issue of how much TSA agents are paid in Massachusetts, my home state). I was simply commenting that $16/hour is considered low pay there. $16/hour would be acceptable somewhere like Phoenix or Dallas or Kansas City, but in Massachusetts (or anywhere else in the northeast) it would almost qualify as poverty, especially for someone with family. I completely agree that theft is evil. It drives me crazy when people steal. I apologize if my comment made it seem as though I was condoning this buffoon's theft of the iPad (I too was outraged by it). However it would be best if we left religion out of this; we are dealing with the laws of Man, not the laws of God. Happy New Year.
